Bigfoot Research Symposium In October
A Bigfoot research symposium is planned for October 19-21 in Arcata, California. This 40th Anniversary Symposium will honor Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin of Bigfoot movie fame.
The event is currently in the development stage so you’ll have to keep an eye out for information on the location and other particulars. For details, see Jason Valenti’s site: Sasquatch Research.
You go, researchers! I’m sure this will be an awesome Bigfoot research event.

Bigfoot Sightings Reported in the Bigfoot Buzz
Terence Sakohianisaks Douglas is the author of the monthly Bigfoot Buzz column at First Perspective National Aboriginal News.
In his March 31, 2007 column he featured the Bigfoot sightings reports of four indigenous people who contacted him with information. In one, a woman alone in the woods encountered a Bigfoot who stared at her in such a way she believed she was being hypnotized. When she arrived home she was extremely tired, a condition that persisted for weeks and which she attributed to Bigfoot. While I believe it is possible that Bigfoot was doing some kind of hypnosis on her, I think the reason for her exhaustion was probably due to the shock and stress of seeing such an anomalous and huge creature.
In another account Bigfoot was seen near Ft. Bragg, California – something I found interesting as I received a report last year of numerous Bigfoot footprints found in that area.
Another segment of this issue of the Bigfoot Buzz included this statement, “Sasquatch people continued to trade with other First Nations and even learned a little of the old languages.” I find that fascinating as I’ve always wondered if Sasquatch could be taught our languages, and I have an interest in learning to communicate with them.
Bigfoot Are The Old People of the Forest
Bart Nunnelly expects his book, Mysterious Kentucky, to be published this summer. He is also part owner of Kentucky Bigfoot, along with Charlie Raymond. About.Com has published an article he wrote about a Cherokee man he visited while researching his book, in Bigfoot and the Cherokee Hill. The article was previously published at Kentucky Bigfoot Sightings Reports along with lots of pictures.
This article gives one of the best descriptions of the physical appearance of a Bigfoot that I’ve read. There’s also a Bigfoot picture which Nunnelly sketched with the help of his Cherokee friend. Very impressive!
The Cherokee man, named only M.F. in the article, said he had frequent Bigfoot sightings during his youth, including observing them regularly at a field where they scavenged for roots and grasses. Nunnelly recounts an incident when M.F.’s grandfather watched a Bigfoot carry away two full-grown pigs weighing two hundred pounds each.
M.F. carried with him a huge tooth he believed came from a Bigfoot. He showed Nunnelly where he found it – in a valley filled with Cherokee graves. Maybe some of my ancestors are there – my great-grandfather was Cherokee. I was touched by Nunnelly’s description of the area, which he’s promised to keep a secret.
Carter Bigfoot Sighting In Tennessee
This morning I read the letter Janice Carter Coy sent to Mary Green about her experience with Tennessee Bigfoot sightings during her childhood. This is the case Green’s book, 50 Years With Bigfoot: Tennessee Chronicles of Co-Existence is based on.
The topic came up over on Bigfoot Forums as someone was trying to get information about where to get a copy of the book. Now, I’d like to know. Where can I get this? I searched Amazon and it isn’t there.
Apparently Janice Carter Coy was about seven years old when she literally ran into a Bigfoot at her grandfather’s Tennessee farm. According to her letter, her grandfather established a relationship with the Bigfoot and fed him regularly.
I know lots of Bigfoot enthusiasts complain about Mary Green and the work she’s done. I don’t, and am saddened when people react that way toward others. Iwould like to check this out for myself, so if you have any idea where I can get this book, please let me know.
[Update: Mary Green wrote to me to let me know how I can get one of the last copies of her first book. Thanks, Mary!]
Cryptozoology – What Does The Word Mean?
I was thinking this morning about the meaning of the word, cryptozoology. For some reason, Tales From The Crypt came to mind. Tales From The Crypt started as a comic book series in the early fifties, then became a movie in 1972 and a TV series from 1989 to 1996. There were a few more Tales From The Crypt movies since then, an animated TV series in 1999, and finally an album by C-Bo.
Crypt means “an underground room or vault used as a burial place, or a place for secret meetings” which has nothing to do with the subject of cryptozoology which is the study of creatures whose existence has not yet been proven, such as Bigfoot. So I looked up the origin of the word. Dictionary.Com gives the origin as the word kryptós, a feminine Greek word meaning hidden. Well, obviously Bigfoot and other unproven animals are hidden. And zoology is the study of animals.
Cryptozoology is the study of hidden animals.
Bigfoot Sighting Leads To Litigation
When Matt Moneymaker, owner of BFRO, had a Bigfoot sighting while on expedition in Kentucky, he probably never thought it would end up in court. The BFRO Bigfoot video footage, which was sold to Adrian Erickson of Newgrowth Capital Corp. for $20,000, was intended to become a part of a motion picture which is in production at this time.
According to Newgrowth Capital Corp v. Craig Woolheater and Cryptomundo, LLC, Woolheater declined to sign a non-disclosure agreement to view a clip of the Kentucky Bigfoot sighting film at the BFRO website. The lawsuit also alleges that Woolheater severed ties with the organization and, after receiving the clip from a BFRO member, posted it to his blog, Cryptomundo, which as it turns out is a LLC: Limited Liability Company based in California.
You can discuss this Bigfoot sighting litigation on the Matt Moneymaker vs. Cryptomundo.com thread at the Bigfoot Forums.

History: Yeti Footprints Found in 1889
Major Laurence Austine Waddel of the Indian Army Medical Corps found large footprints in the snow of the Himalayas at 17,000 feet. He wrote:
“These were alleged to be the trail of the hairy wild men who are believed to live amongst the eternal snows, along with the mythical white lions, whose roar is reputed to be heard during storms. The belief in these creatures is universal among Tibetans.”
- From Among the Himalayas (1899) by Major Waddel.
Bigfoot Misinformation from the Czech Republic
A newspaper in the Czech Republic proudly printed what I consider to be Bigfoot misinformation today.
“As we mentioned in an earlier column, Bob Heironimus is also world famous. He played ‘Bigfoot’ (or Yeti) in the historic Roger Patterson/Bob Gimlin Bigfoot hoax film of 1967 and for more than 31 years fooled many scientists. In fact, there are still some scientists like Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum who refuse to admit that this “dumb cowboy” managed to fool them.
Some people actually ‘believe’ that the creature known as ‘Bigfoot’ or Yeti really exists. While this is a distinct minority of individuals and even fewer scientists, ‘BFers’ as they are affectionately known, still defend the Patterson/Gimlin hoax film, despite Bob Heironimus’s thoroughly verified confession.”
I find it frustrating to read this. Though Heironimus may have a ‘thoroughly verified confession’ on record somewhere, this does not mean that his confession is valid.
I live right down the road (Highway 96, aka: The Bigfoot Scenic Byway) – not far from Bluff Creek. We’re still getting Bigfoot reports from time to time; some coming from extremely credible people residing in this community (Happy Camp) or visiting it.

Todd Standing Sounds Credible
I’m listening to Todd Standing on Coast to Coast AM as I’m writing this – and I like him… he has a good spirit, and I’m inclined to believe his claim to have found Bigfoot and filmed Bigfoot videos.
This is very encouraging – especially because if this is valid, it feels good to know that someone decent and non-egotistical has done what some of the ego and money oriented Bigfoot researchers I’ve had contact with in the past have not been able to do. I see no problem with humble skeptics, but there’s been so much jostling to get to the top of the Bigfoot research field, it is nice to see a decent humble-sounding person making a breakthrough and finding Bigfoot before the others.
I plan to listen to the show again tomorrow with my Bigfoot research partner, and will probably write more about it then.
Down with crazy egomaniacs using one-upmanship tactics to find fame and fortune!
Power to humble people who seek to protect and care about Sasquatch!

The Tobico Theory
Broken branches on trees are a sign Bigfoot researchers look for as a proof that Bigfoot could have been in an area, but perhaps Sasquatch isn’t the only explanation.
Lynn Conley, of Bay County, Michigan, along with her friend, Charles Robinson of Sanford, recently found a section of the Tobico Marsh where a group of 15 to 20 poplars and oaks had been snapped off at a height of from 2 to 10 feet.
Conley’s comments: ”I looked at it really carefully. I thought at first it might have been a bear. But there were no claw marks, just snaps. My first inclination was bigfoot. Honestly, it was so weird. The air was eerie. It was something I can’t even hardly describe.”
When she and her friend were getting back into their car they heard another tree snap. “There was no wind, no reason for it to snap.”
Robinson, her friend, says it is common to see dead and fallen trees in the area, but the trees they found were alive. He says he’s a naturalist who grew up in the woods.
Since the broken pieces were not lying in only one direction, a storm was ruled out. The trees were too thick to wrap a hand around and didn’t have enough branches to be broken by a buildup of snow or ice. So Robinson put forth what I will call “The Tobico Theory” – that because the area had an exceptionally wet winter, the trees were saturated with moisture which quickly froze; then just like a frozen pipe, the trees snapped off.

Bigfoot Video & Bigfoot Protection Petition
Todd Standing says he’s found Bigfoot in the Rocky Mountains – and he’s made a documentary with Bigfoot footage to prove it.
Not only that, he’ll be on Coast to Coast AM this Sunday to tell us about it. See his website, Sylvanic, for more information.
I’m excited about this and have high hopes that it is the real thing. Todd took this one step further and introduced a petition to the Canadian House of Commons requesting legal protection for Sasquatch. I’m behind him 100% on this and have considered doing something similar locally since Sasquatch live in my area.
In an Edmonton Sun article about the petition, it is explained that the movie is called Sylvanic as that’s a native word from southern British Columbia meaning “shadow guardians of the mountains.”

Old Bigfoot Sightings Reports
Radical Sasquatch is at it again, complaining about reports of sightings from back in the ’30s and ’40s…
