North America’s Great Ape: The Sasquatch – Dr. John Bindernagel’s Bigfoot Biology Site

Bigfoot Site of the DayDr. John Bindernagel, B.S.A., MS, Ph.D., is a professional wildlife biologist based in British Columbia, Canada. He has studied Bigfoot evidence since 1975. In 1988 he found and cast a set of Bigfoot footprints near his home. In the mid-1990s he wrote a book, North America’s Great Ape: The Sasquatch Since that time he’s written some well-received scientific research papers about Bigfoot and some magazine articles as well.

I read his entire Bigfoot biology website today and appreciated his discussion of three types of Bigfoot evidence: tracks, sightings, and other phenomena. With his discussion of other phenomena he provided several excellent photographs of tree twists – broken by a force that’s hard to imagine unless it could be an actual Bigfoot.

North Americas Great Ape, the SasquatchI especially appreciated the page about whether Sasquatch witnesses are confusing Bigfoot with bears. He mentions that forestry workers and other outdoors people are unlikely to mistake a bear for something else. An illustration shows the vital differences between an upright bear and a Bigfoot, and even the tracks of each are examined for perspective.

Dr. Bindernagel doesn’t doubt that there’s a real creature called Sasquatch, and focuses on understanding the biological aspects of Sasquatch life. He’s documented the distribution of Sasquatch reports across the North American continent.

On his page about Sasquatch and science he wrote:

“One aspect of my own sasquatch research and writing is that of assisting in validating the sasquatch as a subject for serious research by mainstream sceientists. I have attempted to acquaint students of natural history, field naturalists and colleagues in science with existing data and evidence. I do not try to convince them to necessarily accept the sasquatch as an existing animal, but rather to recognize that it … may be a subject worthy of serious discussion and some research effort.”

Dr. John Bindernagle is a pioneer in the scientific study of Bigfoot. His contribution to Bigfoot research is very much appreciated.

The Bigfoot Books Blog

Bigfoot Site of the DayI just finished reading Steven Streufert’s Bigfoot Books Blog from the first post in December 2008, to the most recent in August which featured Friends of Sasquatch (of which I’m a member.) Thanks, Steven!

I was deeply impressed by the quality of Steven’s writing. For example, from his first blog posting I pulled this line: “Most consider it a popular delusion, the product of wild speculation and equally feral expectations.” Also: “Is this all just an hallucinatory Jungian mass projection of the collective unconscious, a desire for a wild and mysterious revivification? And if so, what is this archetype? Can a myth leave footprints?” Source. With word skill like that I have the impression that this man will be writing a lot more in the months and years to come.

For many of his postings, the content was palpable, and the depth of information worthy of note. Here are a few Bigfoot Books Blog articles I especially liked and want to point out to readers:

Bigfoot Books Blog1. Black Helicopter on Bluff Creek Bigfoot Film Site! Giant Salamander Found! Huge Rockslide Blocks Road to Louse Camp! And More News… – in which Steven recounts an expedition to Bluff Creek during which he was surprised by a black helicopter. Great information!

2. Quotes of the Day: RENE DAHINDEN. Plus a Plug for SASQUATCH ODYSSEY Documentary – get to know Rene Dahinden better and put Sasquatch Odyssey in your Netflix queue – that’s what I did!

3. NEWS: Bigfoot Books on Cryptomundo! Save Bluff Creek Company Store! A Meeting with Jerry Hein & Vocalizations, Sasquatch Hair Samples & Footprints – Steven Streufert has taken up the cause of finding someone of means to purchase the property at Bluff Creek that includes the old Bluff Creek Company Store that Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin shopped in before heading north for their encounter with Bigfoot. Also I found the section about Jerry Hein’s expedition to be fascinating.

4. Bigfoot and Beer, Lost Coast Ganesh I.P.A. Controversy Surrounds Flatmo Image; Church of Bigfoot, Scientist up in Arms! – a virtual collection of Bigfoot beers! This article made me want to buy a case of Indica beer, especially after hearing the brewery has been sued over their beer’s artwork depicting a legendary East-Indian creature.

steven-streufert-bigfoot-books-willow-creekThis photo shows Steven Streufert working at Bigfoot Books in Willow Creek, California, just down the road from Bluff Creek. Next time you’re in the area stop by and meet him, and prepare to buy books because you will seriously want to! He has a large collection of new and used books about Bigfoot for sale, as well as almost every other type of book imaginable.

The Bigfoot Field Reporter

Bigfoot Site of the DayRecently Sharonlee and I met up at Cinnabar Sam’s restaurant in Willow Creek for a dinner party that included the Believe It Tour team, Craig Woolheater, and Steve Streufert. Here are some words that I’d use to describe Sharonlee: dynamic, personable, pleasant, cheerful, and vibrant. She’s got a happy, energized personality. For this reason she’s bound to succeed at her new career as host of two Bigfoot radio shows accessible through the internet.

Sharonlee’s primary show is called The Bigfoot Field Reporter. She’s also co-host for Sasquatch Triangle. Today her blog, The Bigfoot Field Reporter, is the Bigfoot Sightings Bigfoot Site of the Day.

Since she started this endeavor only last month, it wasn’t hard to read the entire blog. It gave me a better understanding of who Sharonlee is and what the focus will be for her radio show. It appears that she plans to travel and report on Bigfoot activities from the field.

Sharonlee, Bigfoot Field ReporterShe’s not one of those people to sit home and talk about what other people are doing. Sharonlee gets into active squatching and recording of Bigfoot events as they happen — in the forest! Recently she accompanied the Believe It Tour team to the Bluff Creek site of the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film. Her blog also tells the tale of an Ohio Bigfoot expedition she recently took part in.

Next month Sharonlee plans to report live from the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy conference in Tyler, Texas. (September 26, 2009) About the conference – the admission fee is only $15… and if you attend you’ll be able to meet Sharonlee!

The Bigfoot Museum

Bigfoot Site of the DayI know many of us aren’t lucky enough to live close to the Willow Creek or Felton Bigfoot Museums, but there’s a wonderful Bigfoot Museum online. This is a virtual Bigfoot information project created by Michael Esordi of Connecticut. I noticed he didn’t list himself along with a group of well-known Bigfoot researchers on the museum site, but you can see his bio on the Believe It Tour site.

On Bigfoot Museum, you’ll find all things Bigfoot – with a few articles, a list of names Bigfoot has been called, and current Bigfoot event information. Right now the site lists the Believe It Tour and the Texas Bigfoot Conservancy’s upcoming conference which will feature Brian Brown, Daryl Colyer, Jerry Hestand, Alton Higgins, Peter Matthiessen, Robert Swain, John Bindernagel, Chris Bader, Carson Mencken, John Mioncynzski, Keith Foster, Bill Dranginis, and Peter Matthiessen. I’ve also heard Loren Coleman may be speaking there.

Where did I hear that? Well… I had the extreme good fortune of spending time in Willow Creek, California two days ago with the Bigfoot Museum’s founder, Michael Esordi, and the rest of the Believe It Tour team: Brad Pennock and Diana Smith. We had dinner with Craig Woolheater of the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy, and he mentioned that Loren Coleman is expected to speak at the conference. I have to admire people with the verve and energy to put on conferences! …or speak at them!

Bigfoot MuseumAbout meeting the Bigfoot research team in Willow Creek – I’ll write about that soon. I took lots of photos. I’ve been waiting for the team to show up in Happy Camp today and will write about the entire Believe It Tour adventure as soon as my participation in the event concludes.

The Bigfoot Museum site has only two articles, and Michael might appreciate having more. I love the article by Ray Crowe on Baiting. Very helpful! One always wonders what Bigfoot might like to eat, but Crowe’s article goes beyond that with suggestions on how often to bait, and what courtesy Bigfoot would appreciate while you’re there trying to make new friends.

There’s Bigfoot TV at the Bigfoot Museum website (YouTube videos) and a selection of photographs, some from exhibits, and some from a conference. You’ll also find links to organizations, groups, and friends. You can get a link to your Bigfoot site or blog there – Bigfoot Believers and Friends.

The last part of the site is the Bigfoot Museum store – where you can buy a replica of a 1967 Bigfoot footprint from the Patterson-Gimlin film site, or your very own Bigfoot action figure, or a variety of t-shirts and other gear. Site owner Michael Esordi is a talented graphic artist and has devoted time to developing a collection of Bigfoot themed designs. Must see! He also owns the domain, Bigfoot Surplus.

Online Bigfoot Tour – Come Along For the Ride!

I’m starting an online tour of Bigfoot sites, both renowned and obscure. I started this by posting a Bigfoot Site of the Day on my Bigfoot Sightings Twitter account. I now want to incorporate the project into this blog, and do a little research on each Bigfoot Site of the Day as we get to it.

If you’d like to suggest a site, either leave a note here or email me (see the right-side column for my contact link.) Right now I’ve got sites scheduled up into October, one each day. I’ll be very happy to add more.

I’m inspired by the Believe It Tour which is exploring my local river valley as I write – and though I can’t go long distance to explore, I can learn amazing things online. It is time for me to educate myself more by reading more in-depth information on Bigfoot research here on the internet. So here we go with a new Bigfoot Site of the Day project!
