I’ll be at the 2011 Happy Camp, CA Bigfoot Jamboree

This year’s Happy Camp Bigfoot Jamboree will take place on Labor Day Weekend, September 2-4, 2011 at the River Park in Happy Camp. Our resident Bigfoot researcher, JavaBob Schmalzbach, will be a speaker – as will I. You can see us at 1pm on Saturday 9/3/11 at the pavilion in River Park. I have NEVER spoken at a Bigfoot event (honestly, I don’t even attend the conferences, as of yet) but since the Bigfoot Jamboree is a gathering of Happy Camp neighbors I will gather together some brave thoughts, psyche myself up, and go tell everyone why I’ve been researching Bigfoot for the last six years.

Happy Camp Bigfoot

My main motivation for doing this is to let people in our area know that Bigfoot is a real phenomena, not just an awesome statue in the middle of town. I want to tell them about Bigfoot sightings in our area.

When I got here in 2000, nobody talked about sightings. In April 2001 we had a town celebration for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Bigfoot Scenic Byway which runs from Happy Camp to Willow Creek. At our celebration one speaker mentioned a Bigfoot sighting that had taken place about ten miles from here in the 1800s. Other than that, nobody could tell us anything about local Bigfoot sightings.

My goal, therefore, was to find out if Happy Camp has a real claim to the presence of Bigfoot, and that’s what I’ll be speaking about at the Bigfoot Jamboree. It will be an opportunity to share my findings with the people of our town.

After I’m done, I’ll turn the stage over to JavaBob, a more experienced speaker with a book to sell. I’m not sure what he has planned but I’m sure it will be of interest to anyone who has wondered about the existence of Bigfoot.

I asked Tara Hauki to speak and she declined. I get the impression she’s received some negative feedback from some of her friends and acquaintances in town, and feels a need for more privacy. We have discussed sponsoring an event more centric to the Bigfoot community at which we might get her to take part.

There may be other Bigfoot researchers in town that week that could take the stage for a bit… and if you are such a person who can be in Happy Camp that weekend, please email me – let me know. My email address is linda-at-bigfootsightings.org – you can use the contact link in the right-side column of this website.

Alberta: Bigfoot Walking on Water

I just had to use that title! …But the water was frozen, so it was actually walking on ice. I recently received this Bigfoot sighting report from Alberta, Canada. The sighting was in 1991 – about twenty years ago.

It was January 1991 and I was south of Valleyview, Alberta Canada about 10 pm with a co-worker in the woods. We were crossing a bridge in our truck, and when I looked down I saw a large, black, being marching across the frozen river. It was swinging its’ arms. I knew it wasn’t a man because of its size and color. When I told people what I saw they just laughed, but I know what I saw was Bigfoot.

To the person who sent me this report: I’m not laughing because… I believe Bigfoot exists. I admit I laughed a little, but only because you saw one walking on water (frozen) which I believe is fairly unique! Maybe not in your neck of the woods, though. Where I live, the water doesn’t freeze over.

Because many people laugh and scoff at the idea of a Bigfoot sighting, many experiencers stop telling what they saw. I find that sad and frustrating because there are a lot of people, like myself, that love to hear about Bigfoot. We want to know the habits, habitat, and actions observed during each sighting so we can learn more about our elusive, primitive cousins.

On the map, near the sighting location, there’s a lot of forested territory. There’s also the Willmore Wilderness Area, the Kakwa Provincial Park, and five other provincial parks and three national parks! It must be a beautiful area!

Facing Bigfoot with No Fear

A fearless encounter! Tim Peeler says he saw a male Bigfoot standing in his backyard and had the temerity to poke it with a stick and order it to leave, because he was concerned that the creature meant to harm his dog!

Thanks to TylerS500Lorinser for posting the video!

Tim Peeler of Cleveland County, North Carolina, has become a bit of a celebrity after calling 911 to get help with a Bigfoot prowling around his yard just over a year ago, on June 5, 2010. Now if you do the research at Google and YouTube you’ll see dozens of articles, interviews, and videos about him. If it was attention he wanted, he got plenty! And if this story is 100% factual, you have to admire him for standing up to a Bigfoot and ordering it away.

When we encounter any animal we need to make it clear who is the alpha… who will give the orders. So long as the animal knows who the boss is (you, of course) it is satisfied and can be subservient. It just wants to know the rules. If you show fear or run, then it knows you are giving up the alpha role and then it is in charge, and that could lead to your injury. The same rule applies to a Bigfoot as to an animal. If we approach a Bigfoot fearlessly it will respect us. If we whimper, step back, cower, or show any other sign of fear, it will know it has an advantage over us.

Tim’s Bigfoot was probably seeking a meal of dog meat, so Tim’s decision to protect his dog may have saved the animal’s life. In 2005 I went to an incident location at which two goats had been snatched from their chains in a small farmyard. The thick (very thick!) links of their chains had been broken, leading the owner to believe it was more likely a Bigfoot than anything else. Remains of the goats were found on a hillside nearby.

Sorry if I sound slightly distrusting of this story, but I can say I’ve reached the plateau of “once burned twice shy”. People whose Bigfoot sighting reports generate a lot of publicity tend to send up red flags for me. On the other hand, Tim Peeler seems like a genuine and friendly kind of fellow I’d like to meet.

In any case, his attitude of fearlessness toward the Bigfoot is what impressed me. He didn’t feel threatened and was able to take charge in the situation.

RIP Don Campbell – Bigfoot Researcher

Am I the last to know?

I got my first email from Don Campbell on September 4, 2009. He started by telling me about his Bigfoot baiting techniques.

“Just read my friend, Cliff Barackman’s blog and now have read your
site. Cliff is trying out some of my bigfoot baiting techniques. I
mentioned to Cliff and DB Donlon aka The Blogsquatcher that I had been
using honey and sweet feed as an attractant to Bigfoot in the Carmel
Highlands area of Monterey County.” – Don Campbell

I posted some of his earliest emails in Creative and Useful Bigfoot Research Techniques, by Don Campbell. He recommended using honey jars to give Bigfoot a special treat, and had other very creative and unique ideas for connecting with them.

I continued to get steady email correspondence from him until Christmas, December 25, 2009, and then he disappeared from my email inbox without another word – until March 9 when he got out of the hospital after a nearly 3-month stay. His health had been bad for years. He spent eight years of his life in hospitals after an industrial accident crushed the lower half of his body.

On March 11 he wrote:

“Got the H1N1 swine flu shot in Nov. and ended up getting it anyway at end of December plus foot was acting up. Then I got MRSA on top of all that at hospital. Then they sent me home without rehab and my blood pressure dropped and I went back. Ended up in a acute care rehab place for 8 days.” – Don Campbell

After March 11, 2010, I never heard from him again. I emailed several times – until I got a notification back that his WebTV account had been closed.

At the time I suspected he might have died, but when I looked for obituaries online I couldn’t find any information, so I accepted that either he’d died or decided not to email me anymore.

Just a few days ago I was at JavaBob’s house and mentioned to him that I wanted to go on local expeditions this summer to use Don Campbell’s Bigfoot contact techniques. When I got home that day, I decided to do another web search to see if I could find any more information. I was hoping that some other blogger might have written something more recent about him. But that didn’t happen. Instead what I found was verification that he’d died last June. One year ago, on June 26, 2010.

He gave me permission to publish anything he’d written to me in email, so it is my intention to publish all his emails in an e-book, so his voice won’t be lost.

Missouri: Saint Louis University Biology Professor Supports Bigfoot Research

Dr. John Severson lectured on “Bigfoot: Science Fiction or Science Fact” during a recent family night at the Space Museum in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Dr. Severson is a professor of biology at Saint Louis University where he teaches Biology of Health and Disease.

He clarified that although there’s no “hard evidence” (bones or bodies,) there’s plenty of “soft evidence” (footprints and sightings.) He also told his audience that recent examinations of the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film showed it could not have been a hoaxer in a costume.

Dr. Severson has been interested in Bigfoot for a long time. He did not commit to being a totally convinced believer, but said that Bigfoot is thought to be nocturnal, omnivorous, and a strong swimmer.

His statements about the flexibility of Bigfoot footprints and the ludicrous idea that thousands of fake-foot hoaxers exist are reminiscent of Dr. Grover Krantz’s anthropological study in Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence, which I’m currently reading. (I’ll share more about that in a future posting.)

Source: Giving Bigfoot evidence a second look; Dr. John Severson talks about Bigfoot at space museum’s Family Fun Night by Teresa Ressel, published on March 30, 2010 in the Park Hills, MO Daily Journal Online.

Note that a comment on the article cited above mentions a Bigfoot known to frequent the Bonne Terre Rock Quarry. Rock quarries are known to be a site frequently associated with Bigfoot sightings.

Bonne Terre, 62 miles south-west of St. Louis, is surrounded by forests, and in the vicinity of Missouri’s St. Francois State Park.

Pennsylvania: Fayette County Bigfoot Sightings in the News

If you look at the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society website you’ll see there are dozens of Bigfoot sighting reports recorded, covering every county in the state of Pennsylvania. Recently there’s been several new sightings near Dunbar in Fayette County, in the southwest corner of the state.

Featured in the Herald Standard article by Dave Zuchowski (see link below) are three sightings, two of which had multiple witnesses. A mother-daughter outing on September 23, 2009 resulted in a viewing of a tall, muscular being who got as close as 150 feet. The next day Pennsylvania Bigfoot researcher Eric Altman went back to the site with them and found a possible foot impression and a 3′x10′ lean-to structure.

In July 2009 a woman saw two Sasquatches close to town. A juvenile Bigfoot feasted on blackberries, accompanied by an adult.

Most recently, on January 31, 2010, Heath Landman and his twenty-year-old son, Heath Nickolas Jr., were driving when they saw a large bipedal creature cross the road in three steps. Landman described it as being 6’3″ with a cone-shaped head. Landman got his three brothers and two nephews to help him examine the site. They found hair and snow footprints. Eric Altman is handling this investigation and may send the hair to a lab for testing.

I’ve previously written about Pennsylvania Bigfoot research in Pennsylvania: Footprints Found In Luzerne County. The Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society was my Bigfoot Site of the Day on August 21, 2009.
