Bigfoot in Mr. Mike’s Backyard: Follow-Up on Lan Lamphere’s Internet Radio Broadcast

Cutting through several hours of radio-show-host anger and ranting was hard, but I’ll put that aside and get right to the story you’re waiting to read about. I wish Lan Lamphere had done the same because in the end, when he finally got to it, I found the Bigfoot sighting information to be fascinating.

This last weekend Mr. Mike, whose location is still confidential, got a visit from two Bigfoot researchers, Jack and Jeff. The researchers contacted him, phoned several times, then arrived to find out that Mr. Mike’s property does not border the woods and in fact, is in town.

They found Mr. Mike to be a genuine, decent, honest and sincere person of about age seventy-two. He takes care of his sister, who has dementia. Mr. Mike, when younger, was a hunter and a military serviceman.

That evening they set up cameras in Mr. Mike’s yard. Of particular interest to this story, they used a FLIR camera which looks at a spot and measures differential temperature between the heat of that spot and the background temperature. In other words, it shows objects invisible to the eyes.

Jeff told Lan that when he approaches habituation sites he expects the reporting party to have a fragile mental state and that these people are always treated with respect. Lan asked if habituation sightings are common these days. Jeff responded that they are. Habituation refers to sightings that are repetitive in one location.

Jeff and Jack showed Mr. Mike some Bigfoot videos and Mike responded that they would get more good ones that evening. They said that when they returned with their equipment that evening, Mr. Mike was emotional. At 10:30 or 11:00 PM he recounted his story accurately. He spoke with utmost sincerity regarding what he believed was happening around his home.

However, that night, according to Jack and Jeff, nothing happened. No Bigfoot showed up. Then, they said, Mr. Mike mentioned that the Bigfoots were not there every night. By the end of the night he’d been convinced that what he thought he was seeing wasn’t valid. It is unclear why Mr. Mike’s story was discredited at this point. Theories mentioned were dementia and macular degeneration.

Jeff and Jack found a small hot spot with their FLIR camera.

As mentioned before, the FLIR camera is heat-sensing. They said they found a hot spot but that it wasn’t a Sasquatch. They believed that Mr. Mike is a decent person who sincerely thought he was seeing Bigfoot creatures in his yard, but that there was “no way in hell there was a Sasquatch in those woods.”

While I was listening to all this, I was in a chatroom full of other listeners. At this point one of the people in the chatroom, Winona, mentioned that the Bigfoot Mr. Mike saw might have been in a different dimension. I am open-minded about interdimensional theories of Bigfoot life, and agreed that perhaps because of Mr. Mike’s advanced age he’d developed an ability to see something that isn’t normally visible to all of us.

The plot thickens.

A few moments later Lan told Jeff and Jack that unknown to them, he had cameras installed in the trees on the property, and immediately before they got the hot spot on their FLIR footage Lan’s camera photographed something shadowy and about nine feel tall in the same location. The implication was that the creature was in the process of vaporizing when the FLIR camera sensed a tiny bit of heat.

At that point Lan told us about a Bigfoot sighting he’d had as a child. He said he clearly saw a Bigfoot around ten feet tall. His father and sister saw it as well. Apparently his sister became hysterical and his father reached for his gun and planned to shoot it. The Bigfoot turned and took two steps then vaporized before their eyes.

My thoughts on this matter

1. We cannot at this time prove that Bigfoots can travel interdimensionally. However there have been many reports of this nature and as an open-minded researcher I am fascinated by the possibility.

2. Mr. Mike may be able to see things others cannot. We’re all aware that some people have psychic powers and abilities others do not have, and there’s no reason to think this could not extend to the arena of Bigfoot sightings.

3. Both these possibilities are not unheard of, and I won’t discount them. So… the attempts of some bloggers to discredit Mr. Mike and to call him demented may be unfair and entirely inaccurate. Mr. Mike was open and sincere in his reports and is deserving of utmost respect. To treat him otherwise is wrong.

And for now, that’s how I see it. This report is based on what I heard (or thought I heard) as I listened to Lan Lamphere’s “Overnight AM” internet talk show earlier this evening.

My earlier postings on this sighting are Bigfoot Found in Backyard – Radio Broadcast Online and Report of Bigfoot Found in Backyard – a Mental Aberration?.

Report of Bigfoot Found in Backyard – a Mental Aberration?

The aforementioned Bigfoot found in a backyard is apparently turning out to be an error in judgment, however a Facebook group owner who investigated the matter has been asked to wait until after Monday evening’s broadcast of Overnight AM, to share his report. He kindly agreed to that.

Could it be that “Mr. Mike” imagined all the Bigfoots in his yard, that the private investigator’s photo is a blobsquatch, and that we’re once again facing a case of false claims and disappointed hopes?

A few weeks ago I wrote about my frustration with false Bigfoot reports. I have heard too many of them at this point, and find it distressing whenever a sighting report proves insubstantial. It would help if people who are not absolutely certain of what they saw would quit making grandiose claims.

The implication is that Mr. Mike may have made an error in identifying … shadows, perhaps. But we’ll just have to wait a few more hours to get the rest of the story.

[Update: After hearing the radio broadcast on July 12 I changed my mind about this, and now feel it is possible that there's another explanation that does not indicate any dementia on the part of the man who reported these Bigfoot sightings. Bigfoot Found in Backyard – Radio Broadcast Online

See the news here: On Demand – Exclusive – Bigfoot Found in North America – Documented Events Reveal Sasquatch Lives

A man claims a family of Bigfoot creatures sleeps behind his home. Should be a good story, and maybe the start of some solid evidence. The location is confidential – hopefully assuring this family will be protected.

++ Tonight’s broadcast is complete – there may be an archive of this program available later. ++

Here’s what I heard:

On July 3, 2010, Bill Birnes, executive producer of UFO Hunters on the History Chanel, got a call from “Mr. Mike” who said that for three weeks he’d had a family of Bigfoot in his backyard.

Lan Lamphere, radio host, phoned Mr. Mike’s local police department and found out they had two reports of possible Bigfoot sightings recently. A law enforcement officer reported seeing a dirty or hairy tall woman rummaging through trash. No effort was made to catch her because scrounging isn’t illegal in that area. She ran into the woods in the direction of Mr. Mike’s home.

Mr. Mike, live on the air, over the phone, said he was standing in the front hallway looking at two females and one baby. They were in the front yard, and he also saw a large male. He said the others stay in the backyard.

He’s been talking to them; he says they don’t bare their teeth at him as much anymore.

There may be as many as two or three infants. As of the 3rd of July he had seen about 6 Bigfoot creatures, but now there’s more taking refuge at his home, in both front yard and back yard.

“They’re looking back at me and minding their own business,” he said, stating he was at that moment standing in the front yard only about five feet from one. She was sitting in the back of the shrubs, nearby, he said.

Lan Lamphere’s radio show hired a private investigator and found out that Mr. Mike is the “quintessential perfect citizen” – a churchgoer with family members in law enforcement.

On the air, Lan Lamphere told Mr. Mike that the private investigator went to his place at 3am and sat in the bushes for several hours. Something approached him and grunted. He took photos. When he got home and looked at the photo he could see a silhouette of five shapes, three of them very small.

The talk show will continue to feature and follow up on this story.

My personal observation was that there was nothing in Mr. Mike’s voice to indicate that this was a fabricated story. More on this as news becomes available.

Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence – An Anthropologist Speaks Out

Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence

Book review by Linda Martin – © 2010

Reading group homepage for this book: Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence

Re: Chapter One of Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence – An Anthropologist Speaks Out by Dr. Grover S. Krantz, “Introduction”:

Dr. Grover S. Krantz was fascinated by the possibility of Bigfoot’s existence. His enthusiasm shines through in the pages of his seminal scientific examination of the phenomena: Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence – An Anthropologist Speaks Out. The introduction and chapter one are the same thing – there is no separate introduction.

In Chapter One – Introduction, Dr. Krantz explains how he came to be invested in Bigfoot research. He lists the books he read and tells what he thought of them and what he learned from them. He introduces a few prominent Bigfoot researchers of his era; he started his Bigfoot research in the mid-sixties. Next he examines, briefly, various types of proof he’ll discuss at length later in the pages of his book.

Not content with telling why people believe in Bigfoot, Dr. Krantz also writes about alternative explanations for Bigfoot sighting reports and Bigfoot related phenomena, including bear misidentifications, fabrications, misinterpreted chance irregularities, and other types of human error. He states:

“Unfortunately for the proponents, this apparent stand-off is resolved in favor of the skeptics. The truth of that required one item of evidence must be demonstrated to the satisfaction of the skeptics. If they are not convinced, the issue cannot be resolved favorably. The skeptics are under no obligation to disprove all or, for that matter, any of the evidence. The burden of proof rests with those who think that the animals are real. The skeptics are not obligated even to look at the evidence. If that seems unfair, consider what happens when someone insists that you pay attention to the arguments for his/her religion. Are you under any obligation to defend your position, or even to listen to them?” (page 7)

Dr. Krantz lists a series of events needed to prove to scientists that an animal is real. The process includes sighting reports, skeletal remains, a complete body, a live capture, and then studies in its natural habitat. We’re a long way from proving anything about Bigfoot! We’re still in stage one of the process – gathering sighting reports.

The next section explains why we are unlikely to ever find Bigfoot bones. Dr. Krantz concluded the chapter by discussing strong opinions, unusual historic Bigfoot sighting and encounter cases, his personal involvement in Bigfoot research, and the focus of his book, which is professional and scientific in nature.

Missouri: Saint Louis University Biology Professor Supports Bigfoot Research

Dr. John Severson lectured on “Bigfoot: Science Fiction or Science Fact” during a recent family night at the Space Museum in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Dr. Severson is a professor of biology at Saint Louis University where he teaches Biology of Health and Disease.

He clarified that although there’s no “hard evidence” (bones or bodies,) there’s plenty of “soft evidence” (footprints and sightings.) He also told his audience that recent examinations of the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film showed it could not have been a hoaxer in a costume.

Dr. Severson has been interested in Bigfoot for a long time. He did not commit to being a totally convinced believer, but said that Bigfoot is thought to be nocturnal, omnivorous, and a strong swimmer.

His statements about the flexibility of Bigfoot footprints and the ludicrous idea that thousands of fake-foot hoaxers exist are reminiscent of Dr. Grover Krantz’s anthropological study in Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence, which I’m currently reading. (I’ll share more about that in a future posting.)

Note that a comment on the article cited above mentions a Bigfoot known to frequent the Bonne Terre Rock Quarry. Rock quarries are known to be a site frequently associated with Bigfoot sightings.

Bonne Terre, 62 miles south-west of St. Louis, is surrounded by forests, and in the vicinity of Missouri’s St. Francois State Park.

Pennsylvania: Fayette County Bigfoot Sightings in the News

If you look at the Pennsylvania Bigfoot Society website you’ll see there are dozens of Bigfoot sighting reports recorded, covering every county in the state of Pennsylvania. Recently there’s been several new sightings near Dunbar in Fayette County, in the southwest corner of the state.

Featured in the Herald Standard article by Dave Zuchowski (see link below) are three sightings, two of which had multiple witnesses. A mother-daughter outing on September 23, 2009 resulted in a viewing of a tall, muscular being who got as close as 150 feet. The next day Pennsylvania Bigfoot researcher Eric Altman went back to the site with them and found a possible foot impression and a 3′x10′ lean-to structure.

In July 2009 a woman saw two Sasquatches close to town. A juvenile Bigfoot feasted on blackberries, accompanied by an adult.

Most recently, on January 31, 2010, Heath Landman and his twenty-year-old son, Heath Nickolas Jr., were driving when they saw a large bipedal creature cross the road in three steps. Landman described it as being 6′3″ with a cone-shaped head. Landman got his three brothers and two nephews to help him examine the site. They found hair and snow footprints. Eric Altman is handling this investigation and may send the hair to a lab for testing.

Sierra Sasquatch – on Monster Quest, March 17

Apparently there’s a new film? More footprints to examine? Some frightened witnesses?

Am I the only Bigfoot researcher in the world who has never seen an episode of Monster Quest? (No TV connection!)

Here’s the announcement from the History.Com website:

Sierra Sasquatch

Premiere Date: 03/17/2010

Ancient petroglyphs in the Sierra Nevada Mountains depict footprints left by frightening packs of hairy man-like beasts. Now, MonsterQuest heads to the heart of California where witnesses are encountering aggressively territorial packs of Sasquatch. The team will investigate groups of large footprints found here and analyze compelling new video which could be that of the beast.

Their show listings: Monster Quest … hmmm – I see they have full episodes online so I can go there in a few days to see this one!

Now normally I could have just linked you to that page but I wanted to comment on what they said in their blurb…

1. “…witnesses are encountering aggressively territorial packs of Sasquatch…” – assuming this is true, can you blame a Sasquatch for being upset about human beings encroaching on his territory? I always think of the Bigfoot shaking the trees on the border of Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties when he found people camping out on his ridge that led to the ocean. That’s in David Paulides’ book, Tribal Bigfoot – but I mentioned it here: Santa Cruz County Bigfoot. These poor creatures are constantly being pushed back further into the wilderness as human beings take over forested areas. We cannot count on all Bigfoot people to take it calmly. I’m sure they have many variations in character just as human beings do. Some are calm, some excitable, and some oppressive!

2. “…analyze compelling new video which could be that of the beast.” – Hmmm. The beast? I’m totally getting away from the concept of a Sasquatch as a beast, animal, or creature. Of those three words I like ‘creature’ best but for now, I’m going with “Bigfoot” or “Bigfoot people” or something like that. Sure, they live in the woods like animals, so far as we know, but I prefer to think of them as an intelligent tribe of people living in primitive conditions. They’ve learned to avoid human beings because when the white settlers came here they brought rifles and were seen to use them. Before that they came close to the native villages and there wasn’t such a huge divide between “them” and “us” as there is now. The natives were aware of them; they didn’t question their existence. But if they were truly “beasts” we’d be hearing about people being killed by Bigfoot, as they obviously have the greater strength, and we don’t hear that, do we?
