Bigfoot Sightings Winter Hiatus Ends…

Bigfoot Dance
From my Bigfoot watercolor sketchbook.
I took my usual winter break from Bigfoot blogging. There’s nothing quite like a hint of spring to bring back my joy at Bigfoot questing. This year I’m excited about my greater mobility (better tires, better vehicle) and am looking forward to miles on Klamath River Valley forest roads looking for … whatever’s out there.
Though I’d be excited to come across a cougar or a bear while driving the backroads, I’d be both excited and shocked to see a Bigfoot. That won’t keep me from hoping…
Now, just for fun, I’m going to reveal to you my list of amazing words and phrases that people used to find this site during the first nine days of March 2010. Each one of these words and phrases was put into the search box at a search site (usually Google, Yahoo, or Bing) and in response Bigfoot Sightings came up in the results, and someone chose to come to this site. I have been getting hundreds of hits daily, even with the site in winter hiatus condition… so the list is long. You’ll see it at the end of this posting.
I’m now going to choose five of those search queries at random and answer them! (Will continue with this game at a later date; only five for today.)
1. Bigfoot sightings in Florida … honestly, I’m not a Florida Bigfoot sightings expert, as I’ve never been in that state. However I did review a few websites that focus on that area: The Skunk Ape Files and Stocking Hominid Research. They were both part of the “Bigfoot Site of the Day” program I did last year between August and October. Speaking of this program, I might do something similar this year, but honestly I thought “Site of the DAY” was a bit too intense. I’m more likely to try “Site of the WEEK” this year.
2. Northern California bigfoot association … I really don’t know of one. My partner and I have our own Friends of Sasquatch thing going on, but haven’t opened it for actual memberships by anyone else yet. That’s definitely on the table, but keep in mind our focus with that project is on communication via subtle energies, and as I understand it not everyone is into that, unfortunately. I think the world would be better if everyone could slow down and realize that all the buzz-buzz of electromagnetism in the air these days may be having an effect on your telepathic abilities. Every one of us has been subjected to radio and TV waves since birth, and things have gotten much worse in the last twenty years. Oh, don’t get me started! I’ve never owned a cell phone but occasionally we discuss it because being stuck in the mountains without a communication device could be a bad thing. On the other hand, neither of us cottons to the idea of holding one of those things up to our heads. ……………anyhow………….. if anyone out there knows of any Northern California Bigfoot associations please let me know. I think the museum in Willow Creek might be the closest we get to one. I know someone might say the museum in Felton (near Santa Cruz) could be one too (bless you, Mike Rugg!) but when you’re in REAL Northern California, way up north here, honestly… Santa Cruz County seems like Central California, not Northern!
3. Creepy things seen while on a atv – I love this one! You don’t think BIGFOOT could be CREEPY do you? I hope not! I don’t think Sasquatches are at all creepy. I feel they are more mystical, amazing, impressive, and respectable. The word ‘creepy’ just doesn’t fit. (Or maybe you’d like to differ with me on that?) I think this term brought my site into the search results because I recommended a forum thread on this type of thing a few months back: Weird Stuff Seen In The Woods.
4. Bigfoot paranormal … here’s another controversial search query. Is Bigfoot really paranormal? In other words, is Bigfoot an ordinary forest animal/tribal-being/creature/entity that lives, breathes, and eats just like humans do, only in a forest/cave/treetop atmosphere… or, is Bigfoot a shape-shifting/interdimensional/telepathic traveler through time or primordial goo that does amazing, mind-bending things that we can’t comprehend because we can’t do them? (Or maybe we can’t do those things because we can’t comprehend!) Anyhow, we covered that topic, to an extent, in the comment thread at Should Bigfoot Researchers Care About Shape Shifting Reports? My personal take on this is … yeah, we should. Why close your mind to anything just because it doesn’t fit with your version of what reality should be? Honestly, I could write good science fiction if I wasn’t currently so involved with Bigfoot fiction. (My work-in-progress…)
5. What does cryptid mean – Cryptozoology means – the study of hidden creatures. I wrote this post a long time ago: Cryptozoology – What Does The Word Mean? A cryptid is therefore a hidden creature – in that all information about it is hidden except for the reports of people who say they have seen them.
More answers to search queries later. Here’s the complete list of search queries from March 1 to March 9, 2010:

The Trail-Cam “Bigfoot” – My Opinion
A reader emailed to ask me what I think of this new trail cam “Bigfoot”. The picture was originally published in the Bemidji Pioneer, in Minnesota, and was a trail cam photo attributed to brothers Peter and Casey Kedrowski, and their father, Tim Kedrowski.
My first impression was that it obviously is not a Bigfoot, because the legs don’t have any muscle definition – in fact, they look very much like a costume or a pair of loose pants.
My partner’s first impression was that it is a hunter in dark camo (see examples below which are from Cabelas.) I’m not sure if my examples are the darkest camo, but it very well could have been a hunter walking by in full camo, including one of those strange hats.
Camo or not, the legs look like the give-away to me, because they aren’t curved as muscles in an unclothed leg would be. Others have pointed to the hand, barely visible behind the tree. It looks like a glove to me.
And those two bright spots on the head – they couldn’t be a Bigfoot’s eyes because a Bigfoot’s head is close to the body – there’s no neck, so a Bigfoot doesn’t turn his head like a human being does. A Bigfoot has to turn his torso too. (I get these ideas from eyewitness reports, such as those in David Paulides’ books.)
It could be a Bigfoot costume. I’ve seen plenty of them in the Bigfoot parades here in Happy Camp and in Willow Creek, and they hang exactly like that – baggy and loose.
Sample photos of dark camo winter clothing and headgear from the Cabelas website:
So, it looks to me like either an intentional hoax, or perhaps just an accident. Perhaps the brothers put up a trail cam and later a hunter walked by, triggering the motion sensor. In that case the brothers may have honestly thought they got a Bigfoot’s photo, however the lack of muscle definition in the legs makes me wonder how this particular photo got to be so well publicized. Surely people can’t be thinking this is real. Or can they?
Bigfoot researchers must have an enormous amount of skepticism in examining Bigfoot evidence, but others, unfamiliar with evidence we’ve seen submitted over time, might be more willing to believe.
Because I’ve got this site I often am sent possible Bigfoot pictures, but they’re usually very unimpressive, I’m sorry to say. We’ve got a big credibility problem with all Bigfoot photographs these days because with modern software photos are easily faked, and there are excellent artists available to do that. To have a truly conclusive photo that nobody would be skeptical about would be very difficult these days. I’d go so far as to say it is impossible. So when someone points to something shadowy behind a tree and says it is a Bigfoot, I don’t believe it. If it isn’t clear enough to be analyzed it isn’t going to impress any credible Bigfoot researcher.
Even movies are questionable. Look how much controversy there’s been over the years about the Patterson-Gimlen film. I do believe that’s a real Bigfoot, but a lot of people are still denying it, even though many respectable scholars have analyzed it frame by frame and declared it has to be real.
What we need is for some Bigfoot researcher to make contact with a Bigfoot on a long term relationship basis. I know people have reported having these relationships, but often these people will not allow others to know, for the protection of their Sasquatch friends. We need credible scientists or scholars to be able to witness and hopefully even participate in these relationships, to document the existence of these forest people. Photographs aren’t going to suffice, and film most likely won’t either, though Patty is a great start. And I’m totally against the theory that killing one will help; that would only give the Sasquatches one more reason to want to avoid us.
So there you have it… my opinion. I often don’t comment on these types of photographs that hit the news because if I can’t believe they’re real Sasquatches, what good does it do to show them to people?
If you want to see a lot of bad “Bigfoot” photographs head over to this link: Field & Stream’s Trail Cam Contest – they offered a million dollars to anyone who could provide a photo of a Bigfoot, so consequently they attracted all kinds of hoax photos from collages to blobsquatches to bears to sheer nothingness. People were desperate to get that money! (Thanks to Don Campbell for sending me that link.) You can sift through the photos and help rate them… it is great advertising for Bushnell trail cams.
I wonder if this photo everyone is talking about was intended for that contest. Is it worth a million dollars to you to put on a Bigfoot costume and walk in front of a trail cam at night?
Too late… the contest has ended.

Kentucky Bigfoot
By Linda Martin – © 2009
Kentucky Bigfoot is the home of a compelling article about an ancient Cherokee burial ground that may have Bigfoot skeletons in it. The entire section on Bigfoot sighting reports is absolutely fascinating.
When you get close to the bottom of the page you’ll see the headline, “Henderson County – Spottsville, Ky. -1975,” and there’s a link to the entire story. Don’t miss this one… it is webmaster Bart Nunnelly’s story of the Spotsville Monster that terrorized his family when he was a youngster.
The Spotsville Monster story is especially fascinating when you read the neighbor’s experiences which include telepathic communication from the monster, and an apparent interdimensional gateway. The neighbor said the gateway was a few yards wide and looked wavy like hot air rising, and that he saw these monsters (Bigfoot?) emerging from it. Whether you believe in a paranormal Bigfoot or not, the story is worth reading. Bart Nunnelly is a great writer – his sighting stories are riveting.
There’s a nice selection of photographs on the site including one that could be some Bigfoot sitting with their back to the camera. But why are these photos always so blurry!? There are some drawings further down on the photo page that will make you wonder if Bigfoot is really that much more frightening in Kentucky. Very scary stuff indeed!
There’s a sighting report form on the site and a page full of new sighting reports. I’d call that essential reading for anyone who lives in Kentucky!

United Bigfoot Research Group
What I like about the United Bigfoot Research Group’s website is that it provides a way for researchers with a no-kill philosophy to band together for Bigfoot research opportunities and an exchange of information. While most of the sightings posted in their Bigfoot sighting database are from Tennessee, there’s plenty of room for expansion into other states; none are excluded.
The site has articles written by members, including topics like why Bigfoot has eluded us for so long, the question of telepathy, and what to take on a Bigfoot research outing into the woods. There’s a good selection of photographs of markers possibly created by Bigfoot and some cartoons and artwork too.
I liked the Bigfoot polls – they ask: What do you believe Bigfoot is? What do you think of our site? What abilities do you believe these creatures have? …And what about our sighting reports?
There’s a forum for Bigfoot research investigators to network on, and a list of officers that run the organization – this is not a one-person “organization”. I checked on that forum and found that there are multiple threads that have been updated recently by a variety of members – so this is an active organization that you can contact to volunteer to help. Investigators range from the USA East Coast as far west as Missouri, and from Florida in the south to Wisconsin up north. The organization would probably welcome affiliated investigators from other parts of the country.

Creative and Useful Bigfoot Research Techniques, by Don Campbell
This is a series of emails I received this week from Central California Bigfoot researcher, Don Campbell. Because the information in the emails is valuable to all Bigfoot researchers I asked and received permission to put it online. You’re welcome to make comments or ask questions for Don, and hopefully he’ll come by to answer them.

Hi Linda
Just read my friend, Cliff Barackman’s blog and now have read your site. Cliff is trying out some of my bigfoot baiting techniques. I mentioned to Cliff and DB Donlon aka The Blogsquatcher that I had been using honey and sweet feed as an attractant to Bigfoot in the Carmel Highlands area of Monterey County.
You have undoubtedly read reports of people seeing bigfoot in berry patches. The rarest commodity in the forest or desert is honey. Bears and other animals will go out of their way to find it and risk getting stung to get it so I reasoned / theorized that bigfoot would do the same. My research area is near Mt. Pico Blanco. What I do is suspend a Honey Bee jar of honey in a burlap bag from a tree high enough up so it is inaccessible to the resident black bear population. I drip some honey on the lid of the jar to act as a scent factor. I also use a squeeze bottle of honey and go out in various directions away from the baiting area and periodically squeeze out a few drops leading back to the baiting area.
I know this works and bigfoot have discovered the the items I have been lacing in the burlap bag. I get the licked clean jar and lid replaced in the bag. A bear would rip the bag to shreds and damage the jar.
I also use glad containers with baklava or fruit filled pastry in them. I daub some of the contents on the lids which are snapped shut. Result: licked clean containers.
My fellow researchers have felt the sensation of being observed and have smelled the odors emanating from bigfoot. I think bigfoot is curious about us and tries to observe our endeavors. He / she might also be curious about me. I am 7′01″ tall and weigh 300 pounds with a size 17 shoe. My friends are much shorter — Pete is 5′10″ and Cuberto is 5′06″.
The reason for the sweet feed. It is extremely high in carbohydrates and vitamins. It is [if you aren't familiar with it] like catnip to all ruminants. It is made with alfalfa and molasses. Comes in a cake form similar to a fat brownie. Your report of the woman who saw a bigfoot in Santa Cruz who was eating cypress shoots suggested the ruminant / herbivorous aspect of bigfoot.
One of our experiments regarding bigfoot is to use Ozium Industrial Room Deodorizer to act as a scent diffuser when we smell the presence of bigfoot. Ozium is made from orange rinds and it is used in large enclosures like warehouses or stadiums to eliminate noxious fumes. Ozium can/will cause nausea and headaches in unventilated places. I figure that if bigfoot uses scent to intimidate he should be prepared to get it back. Result of spraying is the occasional howl or grunt.
We are also trying to acclimatise bigfoot to camera traps by photographing ourselves and the animals of the area then posting blown up pictures [8 x 10] on a large board. Below the board we have placed soft soil to get footprint impressions. It seems to work as we have been getting some partials — mostly toe impressions and half foot.
I also had a sighting of bigfoot (2) on May 2nd, 2009 near Aptos, California. I have reported this to Mike Rugg who told me that his group had seen 2 bigfoot in the same area within days of my encounter. A friend and I were in Nisene-Marks State Park near Aptos, California. We were planning on walking to a defunct ghost town called China Camp or Hoffman which is in the park. We had barely gone in 3/4 of a mile when we saw some strange grave like cairns of piled river stones in a copse of redwood trees. The graves were in an out of the way place and there were no creeks nearby which struck us as being strange. As we were measuring the cairns we had some stones thrown at us. I thought I saw a dark figure moving away through the nearby brush and started after that person to confront them. Thought it was a homeless person but before I had gone ten or fifteen steps after the figure more stones were tossed at me from behind. The stones landed all around me so I returned to the trail. Since the stones kept coming we decided to forgo our journey to China Camp and walk back to my parked Chevy Tahoe. My friend thought he saw someone and he left the trail only to have stones tossed over me and near him. I yelled out a phrase in a First Nation language that I speak which basically means knock it off and the stones subsided for a bit.
We got back to the parking area around 4pm and heard a horse’s snort like sound which made us turn around. What we saw were two tall creatures standing behind some bushes about 20 yards away. We could see their heads and shoulders as everything else was obscured by the bushes. One was black haired and about 7′ tall. The other was a little shorter and reddish brown in coloration. We could see their faces which weren’t hair covered. The thick brow ridge, the large dark brown eyes, nose and slit for a mouth. They were heavyset with no necks. Didn’t see any ears. We looked at them and they looked at us for about two minutes then they turned and walked away. My friend just said, “Shit, they do exist.”
We went to a bar and had a couple shots of tequila to calm down. In hindsight, we had been looking for ghosts and something we weren’t looking for found us. I want to go back but my friend doesn’t and won’t talk about it. He told me he had migraine headaches for 3 weeks afterwards. I had nightmares.
I later contacted Mike Rugg and told him of our encounter. I had the impression that the smaller one was a female. Mike wants me to go with his group back to the park. He wants me to try calling out to these creatures in the other language I speak and he thinks that my size may draw them in out of curiosity. Might work.
This was my second encounter with bigfoot. The first happened in your town of Happy Camp in 1975. It was a face to face encounter and we were both separated by the thickness of a sliding glass motel door. After seeing that creature which puzzled me I had nightmares and haven’t been back to Happy Camp since. At the time I hadn’t heard about bigfoot and didn’t find out about them until a few months had passed. The motel I stayed in had small patios that opened up to the forest behind the rooms. The desk clerk at the time warned me that they were having troubles with wild creatures roaming outside the rooms at night like coyote and not leave the rooms after 10pm. It wasn’t a bear as I had seen bears before in a previous job. Besides bears don’t have five fingered hands with opposable thumbs and then walk away for long distances on two feet.

Go ahead. You may be right about Thompson Cabins as I found my old sales log and it mentioned that I stayed in some cabins near Happy Camp. At the time I was a traveling salesman selling rebinding to school libraries in the western U.S.. What happened back then I was up late rewriting my orders and it was around midnight when I heard an odd noise outside my room so I opened the drapes and ducked down a bit to look outside in order to see what was making the noise. I looked directly into a face of a tall dark haired creature standing on two legs that was ducking a bit to look inside at me. I think we startled each other as his eyes were or seemed to grow wide — heck I was startled too. We stared at each other up and down and then it put a large hand up against the glass as if to steady himself and I did the same. Why, I don’t know, but my bare hand was a few inches from his bare hand and we both looked at each of them. His fingers and thumb were fatter then mine but the length of the hand was similar. After a while he turned away and walked off on two legs. I closed the drapes and went to bed and promptly had a nightmare. We were about 18″ apart. I always wondered what it was thinking as it walked away.
In the fall of 2006, I was doing location scout work for a motion picture company and was asked to get some photos of bigfoot footprints for a movie that was in production. I went up to the Hupa Reservation and spoke to a few friends and to a Tribal Elder. They showed me some footprints near a creek. Being skeptical I took off my right boot and sock and stepped down next to the footprint. The length was about the same as my size 17 foot but the width was much wider at the ball and heel. As I was putting my boot on we heard a long drawn out whoop type call and my friends got agitated and started saying that Omah was near so we left. We came back a few hours later and there were other bare footprints around mine of various sizes and there was what I thought a large finger hole in the middle of my footprint. The Elder thought I had issued a challenge to Omah and felt that Omah had seen me with the much shorter Hupa. He speculated that Omah must have thought that “OK if those are humans [indicating the Hupa] then what is that? [indicating me]” and he later called me to tell that they hadn’t seen many Omah since.
The howl I heard kind of reminded me of the Howler Monkeys I heard in Belize and Guatemala but it also was coupled with the screaming eeriness of the mountain lion. Some monkeys will whistle and whoop as will some species of parrot. I think bigfoot’s whoops and whistles are much louder and longer in duration then what a monkey or parrot would make. Cliff thinks the knock sounds that are attributed to bigfoot may in fact be loud claps of slightly cupped hands. Bigfoot may do this as a way of announcing its presence and will search out the maker of the sounds. It could be a recognition signal among family members.

Ha’yu Linda
That ha’yu is a Hopi First Nation greeting which means “hello” and is pronounced phonetically like hahheh. The Hopi, by the way, have a name for bigfoot which is rather descriptive and seems to fit them quite well. The word is kononpaiochi pronounced phonetically as kono silent n pie ouch ee. It means the people of the north who don’t cut their hair. It is a much better name for bigfoot instead of sasquatch.
The Esselen Indians who once roamed the Big Sur area of California referred to bigfoot as: the great hairy forest watchers. To the north the Costanoan and Rumsen Indians who lived near Carmel called them: the forest watchers who came to put out the fire. In my research studies that latter name was mentioned repeatedly in the early records of the Spanish Ejercito [army] explorers. Cabrillo and Portolla used this term.
…
If you are going to hang honey pots you need to suspend the burlap bag from a tree that is at least 12′ off the ground. I figure a black bear can reach up to 8 1/2 feet. Also dribble some of the honey on the burlap bag too as an attractant. Where we do our research is three miles from the nearest neighbor and ten miles as the crow flies from Highway One. The area is very rural and out of the way for hikers. The only problem that these rural mountain areas have is the marijuana growers. You need to go armed and be very vigilant. The animals and snakes are the least of your worries when these people are present.

You probably have wondered why I am willing to pass on what my group is doing vis-a-vis bigfoot. We couldn’t care less about notoriety or making money as we are curious and want to share what we have learned with others. If we can help some researcher find bigfoot that’s great. Here are some other helpful tips:
SCENT
All animals [man included] produce a scent that can be smelled. To counteract or neutralize that scent there is a simple and fairly reasonable scent killer method:
1] Mix two (2) cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide and two (2) cups of distilled water [if you don't have distilled use boiled water] with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 ounce of an unscented shampoo. Pour into a one gallon plastic jug and cap it loosely. Let it sit for three (3) days.
a] if you tighten cap it tends to explode.
2] While the mixture is marinating fill a small lidded tub with brown or blue multifold paper towels [the kind that come in stacks].
a] available at Costco, Sam’s Club and chain drug stores or auto supply stores.
3] At the end of three days pour the mixture onto the paper towels and mush them down so the paper towels absorb the mixture. Squeeze out excess scent killer and replace the lid. You can now use these scent killer paper wipes to wipe down your body, your clothes, your binoculars, tape recorder, etc.
MUSIC
We have noticed that bigfoot is attracted to instrumental music. How — my friend/associate Peter plays piano at night and sometimes gets his cabin’s walls pounded on when he stops. He noticed that this also occurs when he has his friends over and they play their instruments. We have been experimenting with New Age Jazz, acoustical recordings; a tympanum drum or kettledrum which is beat in a rhythmical pattern; a didgeridoo; an aboriginal communication device [take a leather thong about three (3) feet long and tie a small board [eight inches long by four inches wide by 3/4 inch thick] to one end then swing the contraption in a circular motion by holding the thong at the other end — noise sounds like an airplane’s propeller engine revving; and a length of cut garden hose which is also swung. We get responses in howls or screams. I know this sounds wacky but it works for us.
Singing gets no response.
Remember the old adage of “Curiosity killed the cat?”
FOOD AS BAIT
Sweet Feed; fruit filled pastry; baklava; rice krispie balls; honey soaked fruit such as apples; orange sections; salted peanuts in the shell or loose; peanut butter with nuts or just plain smooth; grapes; dark chocolate.
We tried bananas — a failure. Only worked when we sensed that we were being observed and had to demonstrate peeling and eating them then they worked.
We also tried whole oranges — another failure. Had to use same method as bananas and demonstrate peeling and eating technique.
CAMERA ACCLIMATIZATION
We set up a display area with a 4 foot by 4 foot sheet of plywood [marine ply works the best as it doesn't warp as fast as regular plywood when subjected to moisture]. We took pictures of ourselves and the local animals both domestic and feral. We enlarged the photos to an 8″ by 10″ size and posted on the board. Below the board we prepared the ground by digging down four inches and replacing soil with sand. The area in front of the board was dug out six (6) feet and two (2) feet to either side of the board. RESULT: toe and half foot impressions. In another area we set up a camera trap about six (6) feet off the ground. Too low attracts bears and deer. DO NOT FORGET TO USE YOUR SCENT KILLER ON CAMERA AND STRAP.
Also experimenting with a mirror and a heavy comb or cheap hair brush. Mirror to get reflection. THEORY: if we can get bigfoot curious about reflection in mirror camera won’t scare it. Hair brush and comb — we demonstrate use when we sense we are being observed. Camera trap focuses on mirror area. If nothing else we are getting bigfoot into good grooming habits —LOL. Did note that a lot of brushes have gone missing. 1] we get small colored stones or feathers as payment for hair brushes.
LANGUAGE
Experimenting with greetings in First Nation Languages [American Indian]. We only do this when we sense that they are nearby. We have been calling out in Hopi and Navaho:
Hello in Hopi is: Ha’yu pronounced like HAH HEH
Hello in Navaho is: yatehe pronounced like YA TEY HAY
Results — inconclusive but we have hopes. I have read some reports that bigfoot speaks a form of ancient Algonquin or Salish language. Stan Courtney [stancourtney.com] has recordings of their murmuring language — you might want to listen. So does the BFRO [bfro.net].
Linda — hope this helps your readers.

Back in 2006, I read a now defunct bigfoot site called Central Ohio Bigfoot Research Group. They mentioned that if you have a group of people and suddenly get the sensation that a bigfoot is nearby to loudly laugh out loud then abruptly stop. Result you may get a chuckle from the nearby bushes as if bigfoot had enjoyed the joke. Being skeptical about this I mentioned it to my research partners, Peter and Cuberto. We tried it and darned if it doesn’t work. The chuckle we heard was brief and loud.
The same site mentioned that if you play a tape recording of children laughing and playing you will attract bigfoot.
Something more for you to pass on. I figure that the researchers who are looking for bigfoot aren’t using their imagination. They hear of the basic techniques and follow them. If bigfoot is an intelligent creature you have to use just as much intelligence to find him and that means use your imagination. The researchers I told about the use of honey and sweet feed laughed a lot and thought I was nuts but now they are trying it. They obviously have forgotten that it was innovative / imaginative thinkers that created the every day gadgets that most people use otherwise a string and two tin cans would still be our cell phones. As an aside from this, when I was a traveling salesman selling tools my boss was mad at me for selling to the competition. He changed his mind when it proved successful. My reasoning was that the competition had to buy it from somewhere. If I had a product that they couldn’t get and which they wanted then why not. My use of my imagination catapulted me from just one of a hundred salesmen into the top five of salesmen within one month on the job. I stayed in that monthly sales position for eleven years.
The whole point of looking for a supposed intelligent creature is to use your supposedly technologically superior intelligence to either find him or attract him. 99.9% of the bigfoot researchers in the world use the old tried and supposedly true methods ie hitting a tree with a stick or bat to make the wood knocking sound. They forget that all trees are different [this includes trees of the same species] and make different sounds when struck. The knocking you hear in the forest is usually consistent in sound. Cliff Barackman believes it is from clapping but like many innovators he is getting laughed at even though he is dead right on the subject. See northamericanbigfoot.blogspot.com for his clapping article.

Speaking of South American music we also tried using a rain stick. What it is is a piece of cactus in which the thorns have been removed then re-driven back into the cactus and small stones are added. When upended it makes the sound of rain or water rushing. Supposedly the indigenous shamans of the Peruvian highlands shook their rain sticks to attract thunderstorms so their people would get water.
A better way to get water in a drought area is to hang sheets of fabric from two poles and collect the dew that develops. It can also be used in foggy areas to collect the moisture in the fog.

Just read your posting about clapping by bigfoot and it made me think of an alternative method for you to duplicate the noise consistently.
Years ago I taught a music class as a substitute teacher and there were a bunch of two blocks of polished mahogany sets about six inches square and three inches thick. We used these in class to make a clapping noise. The blocks had finger grooves in the sides so one could hold them. They were slapped together. Some of the blocks had leather straps on the back so one could slide their hands inside them. The finger groove method was tiring after awhile.
I think that this might be a method for making a consistent noise similar to clapping. What do you think? The noise equates the clapping of two hands and equals the wood knock.

David Paulides Responds to the Bigfoot Massacre Issue
While checking out David Paulides’ North America Bigfoot Search website yesterday to verify a statement in my first posting about Tribal Bigfoot, I noticed that Paulides has added an undated “blog post” that seems to be a response to the Bigfoot Massacre hooplah/outcry that started on Cryptomundo with Loren Coleman’s postings of MK Davis pictures and videos compared to responses by John Green. Coleman’s posts included a couple derisive mentions of Paulides’ name which set me off, and I responded with a few blog posts of my own, shocked that Paulides would be associated with such an outrageous theory. Perhaps I should have kept it to myself, but I was very upset by the issue, especially after seeing David Paulides’ name mentioned! Plus I thought the photoshopping on the videos Coleman linked to was outrageous!
You can read David Paulides’ blog post #67 “Professional Investigations” on his blog in small orange lettering on black (which gives me eye strain) . . . or praise God because it is also posted on David Paulides’ Author Page at Amazon in legible black on white. (Updated Aug. 28, 2009, so it definitely looks like a response to this particular issue.) (Sorry, my ex-webdesigner’s rant about white backgrounds for professional sites just slipped out. See my page on creating author websites for other suggestions for professional-looking sites.)
I agree in part with this statement from his blog posting: “…the world of Bigfoot is one of the most dysfunctional arenas in any spectrum imaginable. It’s a place where many can’t work together, most don’t have friends, a majority of research ‘groups’ are a group of one and almost all have an ego the size of Texas.” I’ve met more people with ego problems who are into Bigfoot research than in any other group I’ve associated with. However I’ve also met some very decent, humble, pleasant people; we’re not all made from the same mold.
I believe he was referring to Coleman when he wrote, “They don’t go into the field, they manage a website where they obtain revenue from selling ads on their site, they make occasional television show appearances and they pedal their books. This group has an inordinate amount of time to sit, read others sites and again, try to find a story that is controversial about Bigfoot so they can drive traffic to their site and increase the revenue to their wallet.” In case he was including me in that group I have to admit… I don’t make money on this site. The small amount of money I get from AdSense for this site doesn’t cover my server and domain expenses.
Though I’m no big fan of Coleman’s I also want to say he’s making money his way which is fine, and David Paulides is making out well too as I understand it because he told me he’s backed by a group of business people in the Silicon Valley area who invested in his project, plus he sells books. I think it is time we all stopped blaming other Bigfoot researchers for the way they attempt or manage to make money with their Bigfoot research projects. More on this in my recent posting: Bigfooting for Cash: Capitalizing on Bigfoot.
If I had a way to make money with Bigfoot research, I’d be doing it too because I’m now unemployed and living on the edge, financially. I don’t even have hot water in my home because I can’t afford the propane for the hot water heater. I’ve discovered that taking a cold shower isn’t too bad if you do it right after taking a long hike. I don’t have money to do long-distance research projects or buy Bigfoot research equipment or go to conventions. But I do have enough to rent a cabin in the forest and drive to local Bigfoot research locations, and maintain a blog. I’m not complaining… and I love living here despite few job opportunities. I also appreciate having more time for Bigfoot research and blogging since I lost my job!
I found David Paulides’ resonse in Blog posting #67 to be cryptic beyond belief – a technique no doubt perfected in his law enforcement days. Rather than coming right out and telling us what he’s talking about he skirts the topic while commenting on his professionalism. Call me a little disappointed, but a cryptic and uninformative response is better than none at all.

The Believe It Tour’s Willow Creek Adventure
Last Sunday, August 16, I drove to Willow Creek, the town on the other end of the Bigfoot Scenic Byway, 75 miles from where I live, in Happy Camp, California. The occasion? I’d been invited to meet The Believe It Tour team as they started their journey through Bigfoot country. We planned to meet at the Bigfoot Motel, visit Bigfoot Books, tour the Bigfoot Museum, then have dinner at a restaurant. I was fairly thrilled about this opportunity because so often researchers travel through the valley but never contact me.
This event has opened a lot of doors for me… it has been utterly amazing, really. I met Michael Esordi and Diane Smith in the lobby of the Bigfoot Motel, and then told them I’d meet them at the bookstore which is a few miles east of town. I met the third tour member, Brad Pennock, team skeptic, outside the Bigfoot Motel where he was photographing everything!
Note: Michael Esordi, the Believe It Team’s tour guide, is webmaster of the Bigfoot Museum website, Bigfoot Surplus, and the Believe It Tour.
I got to the bookstore but found out it was closed – it didn’t open until 2pm on Sundays. With time on my hands I went to the Bigfoot Museum in hopes that Craig Woolheater might be there already. Now you’re probably wondering how Craig got into this story. Michael Esordi arranged for Craig and his traveling companion, Sharonlee, to meet us in Willow Creek.
A quick check of the museum showed nobody was there to see the Bigfoot Museum, and I traveled back and forth a few times, bought gasoline, and explored a place that was calling me, Friday Ridge Road. I drove up high enough to take this picture of the Trinity River and the highway next to it.
Finally I went back to Bigfoot Books and saw cars there, and entered to find the Believe It Tour people now talking to Steven Streufert, bookseller. He’s a Bigfoot researcher as well. I loved his used (and new) book store and bought some old cassette tapes to play in my vintage van on the way home, and a few books. Diana bought a big stack of Bigfoot books – new and used.
Next we headed back to the Bigfoot Museum on the west side of town. The curator, Al Hodgson, wasn’t able to make it but we enjoyed looking at all the exhibits and taking pictures there. I will definitely try to visit again on a day when Al is available!
I’d been to the museum before but it seemed that this time there was more to look at. There are lots of footprint casts, photographs of footprints and the researchers who discovered them, and Bigfoot displays on science, history, and memorabilia.
Craig Woolheater and Sharonlee were delayed during their travel from the SF Bay Area to Humboldt County, so we went back to visit Steve Streufert at Bigfoot Books, then eventually decided to go ahead and get a table at Cinnabar Sam’s so it wouldn’t close before we were ready. Craig and Sharonlee finally reached Willow Creek and joined us there, and we had a wonderful dinner together. This was my first time to meet Craig Woolheater – after reading about him online for years – so I was excited about that and asked Brad Pennock to take this photo with my camera.

Sharonlee, Michael, Steven, and Diana
getting ready for after-dinner squatching
on Friday Ridge Road.
After dinner everyone else went to Friday Ridge Road for a few hours of squatching since there have been recent Bigfoot sighting reports in that area according to Steve Streufert of Bigfoot Books. I’d already been there earlier in the day, but I didn’t say a word about it to anyone, until now. I had to get back to Happy Camp – and it is a two hour drive along a winding river road, with cliffs, high bridges, and other things I don’t like – such as rocks that fall on the highway and the occasional deer that gets mesmerized by headlights.
About the only thing I haven’t seen on the Klamath River Highway (Hwy. 96) is a Bigfoot. I’ve seen a large cougar in the middle of the road. I’ve seen a huge bear cross the highway while I was out hiking near my home. But Bigfoot? No………. not yet. I still have my hopes set on seeing one, and even communicating with one. At least I live in the right neighborhood!
It was a real treat for me to meet the Believe It Team, Sharonlee, Steven, and Craig – especially as I’ve been somewhat of a hermit the last few years. I don’t get out much… but if anyone is coming to the area for squatching, or sight seeing, please give me a call (I’m in the phone book and on Skype: ‘lindajomartin’) or email me first. I’m now enthusiastic about meeting Bigfoot researchers!
A few more photos of the Believe It Team:
I am the last to blog about this… you can read Sharonlee’s account on her blog: Bigfoot Field Reporter, and the Believe It Tour version of events on their blog: Believe It Tour Blog, and Steven Streufert’s version on his blog: Bigfoot’s Blog.
The story doesn’t end here. After spending the night at the Bluff Creek site of the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, the Believe It Tour came back through Happy Camp and we connected to take pictures at Happy Camp’s Bigfoot statue. The next day Sharonlee and Craig came through Happy Camp and phoned me… and I went downtown with my partner, Bob, where we met them and went to a local sighting location. I will write about that soon… it requires its own posting because there’s a new footprint casting involved!

The Hoopa Bigfoot Project
Last summer I was working in a local restaurant in Happy Camp when a man I didn’t know came in for lunch. After he finished eating he brought his business card to the counter and introduced himself as David Paulides of North America Bigfoot Search. He told me a bit about his Bigfoot research project in Hoopa. Since I live in Happy Camp I’m used to accidentally meeting up with Bigfoot researchers who are passing through town, so I told him who I was. I figure out-of-town Bigfoot researchers might know me by my website rather than by my name or face. He said he was in town to interview one of my acquaintances.
Months later I learned that David Paulides wrote a book about the Bigfoot research he was doing in Hoopa, a reservation about sixty miles south-west of here. I got a copy of the book, The Hoopa Project, a few weeks ago, and have been reading it – in fact, I finished it this morning. I’m here to tell you it is an amazing book – one that should be in every Bigfoot enthusiast’s library. I cannot recommend it highly enough, but I’ll give it a try.
David Paulides, formerly a law enforcement investigator with thirty years experience, brought his expert interviewing and analytical skills into the field of Bigfoot research. This may not be unique, but his skills along with dedication to the singular project in Hoopa, reflected in his consistent recording of his observations, combined to help him create what is destined to be a classic of Bigfoot research literature.
The Hoopa Project records, in minute detail, Paulides’ systematic analysis of the Hoopa Valley’s climate, plant life, and animal populations. He made many observant inquiries into the probability of Bigfoot habitation. He researched available Bigfoot databases online and charted known sightings on maps. All these preparatory considerations, he shares with us in the initial pages of his book. It could get a bit tedious to read, but it doesn’t because his writing style is easy-going though it does obviously bear the mark of someone trained to write detailed reports in his professional life.
Though the first section of the 333-page book kept my interest, the book didn’t really get going until page 93 when Paulides started sharing his incident reports. At that point, I didn’t want to put the book down. It should be noted that he divided his reports into two categories. The first category, found in chapter four, was for “Incidents Involving Bigfoot”. These include all evidence of Bigfoot except actual sightings. The second category, saved for chapter five, is “Bigfoot Sightings”. He gives us eleven incident reports and thirty-three sightings total, though some observers had more than one incident or sighting.
Each of these reports contained some clue or insight into Bigfoot life and behavior. Included in the incident reports are stories of large boulder-sized rocks being thrown, not to harm, but to frighten humans nearby. Other incidents include screaming and footsteps or footprints. The people who reported these events agreed to have their pictures taken and allowed their names to be used. They were all very believable and the ones who had sightings signed affidavits to validate their claims.
What enhanced these sighting reports was Paulides’ decision to hire an experienced forensic artist, Harvey Pratt, to make accurate drawings of what each sighting witness saw. Toward the end of the book Paulides shared his process in choosing Pratt, which started with an internet search and ended with a perfect match. Because Hoopa is a Native American reservation with members of the Yurok, Karuk, and Hoopa tribes revealing their Bigfoot encounters, it helped that Harvey Pratt is also Native American, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. He also has over 40 years law enforcement experience including FBI training and years of work with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations. Native American or not, Harvey Pratt was prepared for this job!
What came from the forensic drawings, in which Bigfoot sighting reporters shared their observations of the creature while he drew, is a series of astounding picture-perfect renditions of what these creatures actually look like. The images that came from this will open your eyes to the reality that Bigfoot is not all that different than we are. You will finally see why so many who have had Bigfoot encounters are saying, “It looked more like a human than like an animal.”
This book was created by professional law enforcement investigators, and the result is exactly what you would expect from people bringing that kind of experience to the table. If you’re looking for scientific details, you won’t get them, but you do get plenty of analysis, clearly stated reporting, and phenomenal forensic art.
Combine their skills with the location – a wide, fertile valley in the midst of heavily forested wilderness – and you have the possibility of great field work opportunities for Bigfoot researchers. Add to this the beautiful Native American people who live in the Hoopa Valley, who were open-hearted enough to consider trusting David Paulides with their surprising and peaceful encounters, and you’ve got access to some of the best Bigfoot incident and sighting stories ever told. And besides the Native Americans, there are several non-Natives represented who had Bigfoot encounters of their own to share.
On a personal note, I was thrilled to see faces I recognized and countryside I’ve traveled to and through many times. Some of the people photographed for the book are Karuks, and I live less than half a mile from the Karuk Tribe’s central office in Happy Camp. I’ve been to their annual Karuk Tribal Reunion, and to their Basketweavers’ Gathering, so I felt like I was seeing a new side to old friends. I’m very happy everyone who participated felt comfortable enough with David Paulides to reveal what happened to them.
I’d like to take this time and space to thank everyone who participated by sharing details about their Bigfoot incidents and encounters. I’m in deep gratitude as I’m sure many others who read these reports will be in years to come. Thank you for showing us that Sasquatches really do exist.
Part of David Paulides’ plan for the book is to present it to lawmakers in hopes of having Bigfoot protection legislation passed. I feel this is a noble cause, and support it. I also understand the feelings of Hoopa forestry employees that worried that Bigfoot protection legislation might destroy the Tribe’s forest industries projects. Therefore I hope that any forthcoming law making will be done on a local basis by the Tribal Councils and County Boards of Supervisors, not by State or Federal legislators who may be out of touch with the needs of Northern California counties, especially in rural areas.
Case in point: Environmentalists and the Endangered Species Act forced the closure of the sawmill in Happy Camp in the 1990s. What was once a thriving mid-forest town suddenly became a town of empty buildings and sad, wasted lives. It took many years for our town to start to recover and in the meantime many local families were devastated from income loss. Any Bigfoot protection legislation that does not share a focus with the needs of the people of this region, including but not limited to Hoopa residents, would not be welcome. I liked the examples of Bigfoot protection laws David Paulides included in this book; they are simple and to the point. Bigfoot is obviously very closely related to human beings, and should not be shot.
By the way, in case you don’t realize it, Hoopa is only a few miles south of the site of the famous Patterson-Gimlin film at Bluff Creek. There’s a lot of Bluff Creek Bigfoot information in the pages of this book.
For more information about the Hoopa Valley and the Tribe, please see their website, Hoopa Valley Tribe, where there’s a beautiful photo of the entire valley on the main page.
There’s a recent news article about David Paulides online: Tracking Bigfoot no small feat for local detective.
David Paulides’ website: North America Bigfoot Search.
There’s some wonderful Bigfoot art prints for sale on Harvey Pratt’s website. None of these drawings are the ones included in The Hoopa Project but I think any Bigfoot researcher would appreciate having this kind of art in his or her home. I especially like the one called “Researchers Last View”.
[Important Note: Explorations into the forested areas of the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation are not permissible without a permit unless you're a member of the tribe. Do NOT leave paved roadways while you're in the reservation area unless you've received your permit to do so.]

About Bigfoot Sightings and the Comments Here
Here on Bigfoot Sightings, there are a lot of fascinating comments. Many visitors to this site have posted comments about their sightings, and some Native Americans have posted about ancient knowledge related to Bigfoot. But these comments might be hard to find or read if site visitors have to wade through a lot of nonsense.
I just went through the comments and deleted a lot of spam, silly and annoying comments that looked like they came from junior high school age kids, and comments with obscenities tossed in. I’m usually not into deleting comments, but why should I let my site be a forum for someone else’s trash?
I want to respond in particular to one comment that suggested I only post when I have been on a ’successful’ Bigfoot expedition. I guess that would mean an expedition where I found Bigfoot or some evidence of his existence. Well, sorry, but that kind of success is rare, and if I wanted to post only about that, I’d have few postings here! So what I post about here are about sightings others have had, or about our research activities.
No, I don’t have a lot of pictures of Bigfoot here. Though my cabin is surrounded by places where Bigfoot sightings have taken place (within a mile of where I live) I haven’t seen one! I have this site to talk about my research and things we’ve learned about Bigfoot. I won’t make up a sighting incident or print false information, so you won’t find me telling you wild stories about how he visits our home or contacts me regularly. I honestly WISH I could tell you these things, but I won’t because it isn’t true. What I can tell you about is what it is like to live in an area known for sightings, and what it is like to look for Bigfoot in the Klamath National Forest.

Oak Knoll Ranger District, North of Seiad Valley
Last Saturday my Bigfoot research partner and I explored the wilderness north of Seiad Valley in the Oak Knoll Ranger District of the Klamath National Forest. This is an area in Northern California where Bigfoot footprints have been found; I’ve spoken to one first-hand witness and heard of several others.
We traveled north on Seiad Creek Road which borders the creek until there’s a bridge crossing the creek, at which point the road veers to the right and up a hill. Great views! The road continues all the way to Oregon.
The first photo is Seaid Creek. I took this photo from the little bridge that crosses Seiad Creek Road. There were other much more picturesque areas on the creek, but I got no photos of them. I’ve heard there are several swimming holes and waterfalls, but we didn’t see them. There was also a recent marijuana farm bust in the area; when hiking in the forest, be aware that the Mexican mafia uses the forest for marijuana crops and can be very dangerous if detected. Signs to watch for are hedges of dried and broken branches, and pvc pipe near streams.
The second photo is a ridge in an area where Bigfoot prints were found. We spent a lot of time scanning this area, as I’ve been considering it for Bigfoot research for several years. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get into the back country, so I’m leaving this information here for other researchers who may be looking for new locations to explore.
This ridge is not far from the location of Dr. Matthew Johnson’s well-documented and credible Bigfoot sighting in July 2000 at Oregon Caves, south of Cave Junction, Oregon.
The third photo is of me, crossing an old, broken and abandoned bridge. The bridge may have been as old as 100 years; of course we have no way of knowing the exact age. It was made from two large logs with planks across them.
We crossed the stream here and hiked uphill on a very old dirt road, then came to the ruins of an old cabin. It seemed to have burned, and we guessed it may have been burned by the forest service to discourage people from trying to move in. As you can see, there was also an attempt to burn the large logs of this bridge. Beyond the destroyed cabin, there was a hiking trail which we intend to return to.
The fourth photo is of me, climbing up the west bank of the creek next to the destroyed bridge. It may look like I’m holding a cigarette… but I’m not. That’s a twig in the background. I’m not a cigarette smoker. Note the Bogger.Com hoodie… I used to use Blogger.Com but switched to WordPress a few years ago.
Anyhow, it is a great area for exploration, and easy to access. To get there travel west from Highway 5 on the State of Jefferson Scenic Byway, Highway 96, to Seiad Valley, which is 18 miles west of Happy Camp, California. Turn north on Seiad Creek Road. Soon it becomes a dirt road and the further north you get, the rockier it becomes. It goes all the way to Oregon. Of course, the road is closed during winter due to snow.
About the photos: My Bigfoot research partner and I hold the copyrights on these photographs. Do not take them and use them without our permission! I always have to mention this on this site because people have stolen photos from me in the past and used them online and in other publications. That is a copyright violation. Please don’t do it!

Bigfoot Are The Old People of the Forest
Bart Nunnelly expects his book, Mysterious Kentucky, to be published this summer. He is also part owner of Kentucky Bigfoot, along with Charlie Raymond. About.Com has published an article he wrote about a Cherokee man he visited while researching his book, in Bigfoot and the Cherokee Hill. The article was previously published at Kentucky Bigfoot Sightings Reports along with lots of pictures.
This article gives one of the best descriptions of the physical appearance of a Bigfoot that I’ve read. There’s also a Bigfoot picture which Nunnelly sketched with the help of his Cherokee friend. Very impressive!
The Cherokee man, named only M.F. in the article, said he had frequent Bigfoot sightings during his youth, including observing them regularly at a field where they scavenged for roots and grasses. Nunnelly recounts an incident when M.F.’s grandfather watched a Bigfoot carry away two full-grown pigs weighing two hundred pounds each.
M.F. carried with him a huge tooth he believed came from a Bigfoot. He showed Nunnelly where he found it – in a valley filled with Cherokee graves. Maybe some of my ancestors are there – my great-grandfather was Cherokee. I was touched by Nunnelly’s description of the area, which he’s promised to keep a secret.

Mushmasta’s Bigfoot Video
This You-Tube video has been getting lots of attention lately as reported by a Canadian site, the Times-Columnist: Bigfoot or bear? YouTube viewers debate. The 94-second video may show a Sasquatch, though some think it shows a bear. The site of the filming is near Tofino, BC. It dates from last summer but wasn’t put on You-Tube until February 4, 2007.
The You-Tube page, in case you want to add to the 41 comments that already exist there: Strange Humanoid Encounter
A set of stills from the film:

My conclusion: The film shows something large and dark, walking upright. Hopefully not a prank (I’ve seen similar things turn out to be pranks, so I’m skeptical.) The location is perfect for a sighting. I want very much for this to be a valid sighting, but would have to see impressive corroborating evidence to become a believer. Please, people, if you have sightings like these, safeguard the scene, preserve the footprints, look for hair, broken branches, etc. . . . and if possible, call a local zoologist to visit the scene to give validity to your experience and findings.
