Illinois: Look for Bigfoot near Pyramid State Park

This just in – from Ed, a Bigfoot Sightings reader, about his 1994 sighting near Pyramid State Park.

“Back in 1994, at about 4:30 in the morning, about three miles south of Pinckneyville, Illinois, I was driving toward the town on Rt. 13 when a coyote ran in front of my car. He seemed to be scared to death by something. As I hit the brakes, I looked in the direction that the coyote had come from, and the hairs on the back of my head and neck stood straight up. Something was running at a pretty fast pace, as if it was chasing the coyote.

This creature stood about 7-8 feet tall, was covered in hair and literally jumped up out of the field and crossed behind my car…

The body was massive. It never lost stride as it jumped up from the field and onto Rt.13 and crossed behind my car.

I sat there in amazement and fear thinking if what I saw was really what I have been hearing about for years. This was no bear. I know what a bear looks like, and I know that a bear can’t run as far as this creature did, on two legs…

I never told anyone about this encounter for about one year. Then I told a Conductor, who worked for AMTRAK, what I had seen.. I asked [him] … if he was going to laugh at me. He said no, there are a lot of things running around down here with SHAWNEE NATIONAL FOREST so close. This was the only time i have experienced this creature, but I do believe in them now!!!”

ED

Thanks, Ed, for sharing that sighting with us! A few months ago I reviewed a web page about Illinois sightings and was amazed to find that Illinois has a lot of Bigfoot activity! Shawnee National Forest sounds like the right place to find them.

Here’s the map showing Pinckneyville.
The sighting was very close to Pyramid State Park.
The Shawnee National Forest is south-east of there.

Flying Bigfoot – in the Blue Mountains, Washington State

David N. of Southeast Washington state has seen a creature he believes was Bigfoot, flying.

A FLYING Bigfoot you say?

Quit laughing!

He’s serious and has written an article detailing his sighting and other Bigfoot experiences. He’s focused on learning more about Bigfoot in his area and is forming a research organization, the Blue Mountain Bigfoot Research Group (BMBRG), to connect with others in the Blue Mountains who have had Bigfoot sightings, or who want to participate in the research.

He’s not the only one.

In his article, Blue Mountain Trackers Bigfoot Research Update, he provides links to photos of his UFO sightings and to a video someone else took of a strange flying hominid. He says that video resembles what he saw.

His facts are intriguing, and he’s without a doubt living in an area that should be a hotbed of Bigfoot activity. I think he’s one of those people who sees things because he takes the time to look up at the sky. So many of us don’t, and we miss a lot, no doubt.

Here in Northern California there have been plenty of Bigfoot sightings, but I’ve never heard of one flying around here. I will be visiting the Willow Creek Bigfoot Museum soon, and will ask if there are any reports like that from our region.

You know, Washington is the location of MEL’S HOLE… that hole without any perceptible bottom. I wonder if Bigfoot is flying up out of something like that, from the HOLLOW EARTH.  (Just a thought!)

To David: Good luck with your Bigfoot research. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your discoveries and enjoy reading your articles at Gather.Com. Thanks for submitting your Bigfoot articles to my Gather group, Bigfoot Research.

Dr. Matthew Johnson and the Oregon Caves Bigfoot Sighting

Linda Martin at Big Tree Loop Trail, 2007I met Dr. Matthew Johnson in 2006 when he spoke at the Happy Camp Bigfoot Jamboree. He was there at the invitation of one of my dear friends, Judy Bushy. Thanks to her, I got to hear a first-hand account of what happened to him on Mount Elijah near Oregon Caves.

I’ve just finished writing Oregon Caves — A Bigfoot Sighting Location where I’ve posted a lot of Oregon Caves photographs and information about Dr. Johnson’s sighting. I included a link to a short documentary about Dr. Johnson’s sighting which is posted at a news website.

Oregon Caves would be a great location for Bigfoot researchers to meet, hike, and even take the family on vacation. There’s a cave tour and lots of hiking trails, plus a beautiful Chateau for upscale dining and lodging.

The photo shows me hiking on the Big Tree Loop Trail in 2007. That’s where Dr. Johnson saw Bigfoot in 2000. An odd near-coincidence… I first went to Oregon Caves on June 1, 2000 for my son’s 10th birthday. It was exactly one month later that Dr. Johnson and his family went there, took their hike, and encountered Bigfoot. I live about 30 miles south of there in Happy Camp; he lives about 40 miles east of Oregon Caves in Grants Pass.

Dazed Bigfoot Crossed California Highway 101 During Fires

Today The Willets News reported there was a Bigfoot sighting on Highway 101 north of Willets near Shimmins Ridge Road during the Mendocino Lightning Complex fires last summer. Willets is a small town in Northern California between the San Francisco Bay Area and Eureka.

According to reporter Linda Williams, Chris LoPinto of Laytonville and at least one other driver saw the creature step into the southbound lane near a guardrail. It ran into the path of a small truck and caused LoPinto to brake hard. The truck, which was trying to pass LoPinto’s car, managed to avoid hitting the Bigfoot and continued on without stopping.

LoPinto said the Bigfoot ran upright on its legs until it got to the middle of the highway which was four lanes at that point. Then it leaned over and ran with its arms down the rest of the way, to safety. Bigfoot investigator Tom Yamarone told the reporter that the fact the Bigfoot used its arms to cross the second half of the freeway was highly unusual.

At that point some might think the creature was a bear, but LoPinto got a good look at the face – the Bigfoot was only 25 feet away.

The description:
Estimated at seven feet tall.
It was covered with hair.
The face was completely flat, without a protruding nose.
When it turned to look at LoPinto its neck was stiff so it turned its entire body.
Its face was yellow or gold like a ripe banana.
It had a smooth, shiny forehead with ridges and no eyebrows.
The eyes glowed red, possibly as a reflection from the car’s headlights.
It had thin lips.
It had a simian face.
It appeared to be suffering from heat and heavy smoke from the fire.

LoPinto filed reports with the Department of Fish and Game and with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department. At first he didn’t realize it was a Bigfoot. Eventually he got hold of Tom Yamarone to investigate.

Santa Cruz, California Bigfoot Sighting, 1999

I’ve spent a lot of time in Santa Cruz. I used to live there, many years ago, and my first job, in 1970, was at the John Ingalls brussel sprouts cannery that used to be on Laurel Street near the railroad tracks. It was torn down years ago.

I’m well aware of how spooky the old forest north and west of Santa Cruz can be. It is a charming yet shadowy and sometimes eerie area with a narrow two-lane highway winding through it. The redwood trees and dense, lush undergrowth make a trip through this forest an experience to savor. Yet I never thought of that area as a place where there might be a Bigfoot lurking in the woods.

Why? Because the Santa Cruz area is densely populated by human beings. There are miles of unpopulated forested hills there in the California Coast Mountain Range, so I know it is possible that Sasquatch are living there, but if they’re there, I’ll guess they’re feeling fairly well penned in by now as human civilization encroaches on all sides.

I was surprised to receive the following sighting report in my email, but the woman who wrote it is willing to put her name next to the claim. That’s always a good first step toward making a sighting report believable. She also told me she discussed this with Mike Rugg, owner and curator of the Bigfoot Museum in Felton (a small town in the forest near Santa Cruz) who told her there have been other sightings in the area.

Colette Alexander’s sighting report:

June 1999: Cypress Grove (on Pocono trail) 1 mile up Highway 9 from downtown Santa Cruz, California – at San Lorenzo Creek.

My friend and I were having lunch by the creek. There is a well worn trail in the first pull-out on the right hand side of Highway 9 just up from Highway 1 and Highway 9 intersection in downtown Santa Cruz.

It was a weekday around lunchtime and there was one other person, a fisherman wading in the creek and fishing less than 50 yards away. The brush is fairly heavy there, so I do not think he even noticed us.

We were eating sandwiches and enjoying nature. I looked to my right, “spacing out on the forest” when I noticed about 20 yards away a pair of big black eyes. At first I thought it was a person, maybe a homeless person (there’s lots residing in Santa Cruz), but as I focused I noticed that it was a large gorilla-like hominid “Mimicking me – eating my sandwich!” It appeared to be a juvenile female – lifting a leaf to its mouth in the same motion and speed as I was eating my sandwich. Except when I saw it do that and realized this was happening – I slowed down my bite to the sandwich in shock and so did it – with an expression of amusement and kindness at mimicking me! I wasn’t scared, but definitely in shock.

I slowly turned to my left to nudge my girlfriend to show her, and no sooner did I do that, when I looked back it was gone. It could have just closed its eyes! It’s camouflage was incredible! It was as tall or taller than me. I was sitting down and it was sitting or squatting. I could not see it’s legs. It had black/brown fur – noticed no neck and huge shoulders. Hand and face looked gorilla like except that the front of its face was flatter than that of Primates known. I could see it had straight, white teeth. No fangs. I also noticed that it seemed to have had gray moss on its fur, definitely did not bathe, but did not smell anything. (And I’d never seen a homeless person with moss on them – soot, maybe, but not Spanish moss).

The expression of amusement and the mimicking me eating a sandwich was probably more shocking than just the mere sight – although that was incredible in-of-itself. The intelligence was not animal-like! It was eating what is believed to be the Cypress leaves (young growth there in the spring). Also note: next to a creek. Seems like most sightings are in the creeks. It is imperative that migratory patterns and food sources are noted in our sightings. I studied primate anthropology in college two years after I saw a Bigfoot and it’s taken me years before I thought it important to report this and I would take a lie detector test to prove this was a truthful encounter.

In a follow-up email Colette added: “I was a firefighter in Humbolt county for two years and have been way back in the woods, Shasta/Trinity fires in 1987. Only seen/heard coyotes. Never even thought or necessarily believed in their existence until I saw it myself. . . . Natural man – the meek – may in fact – just inherit their earth back.”

Now there’s a thought that brings up goosebumps on my arms. How do you feel about that?

Does anyone in the Santa Cruz area want to research this more? Let me know if you need contact information.

[Update: This is being investigated and documented further by David Paulides of North American Bigfoot Search.]

Here’s a map of the area.

Modoc National Forest Bigfoot Sighting – 1980s – Northern California

I received this fascinating story in email a few days ago. The contributor wants to remain anonymous.

“I have a good story I’d like to contribute, file under anonymous. I can’t be sure if everyone is familiar with Teddy Roosevelt’s story from the Pacific northwest but it has some similarities. . . .

“My story begins with a friend a few years older than me. He has a brother approx. some 10 yrs. older and this took place in the early 80s. He was from Redding and his older brother always wanted to be a Marine. His older brother had 2 close friends who went into the Marines with him; these guys didn’t see combat and were in the Marines primarily for training and soon (couple years later) were back home. They promised each other for the rest of their lives they would venture into the deep forest for approx 10 days a year, packing everything they needed. 4 days in, 2 days rest, 4 days back, give or take. This was the 3rd year and they chose different places each time.

“This story takes place in Modoc Forest. They drove their jeep as far as they could, camoed it out of sight and went in dressed like marines, carrying assault rifles and were looking for something to unleash fire on. They said they had a strange feeling they couldn’t explain, like they weren’t alone and were being watched. They pressed on for a day or two and the feeling got stronger. They report an eerie lack of wildlife or sounds. In fact they didn’t hear or see anything (alive).

“On approx. the third day they all came to the same conclusion, they wanted to leave. That’s strange in and of itself; these guys don’t quit and run from anything and none objected to the idea. They double timed it back to the jeep, uncovered it and started to drive. For the entirety of their trip no animals were seen or heard.

“Just as they get under way in the jeep, one man in back with an assault rifle and also passenger heavily armed, they notice something just inside the brush/tree line making pace with the vehicle. Whatever it was is reported to be at least 7-8 feet tall, looking only at them, and not where it’s going for 1/3 mile, obviously on 2 legs and doing about 15mph in the bush. They all made eye contact with it although the driver only briefly. All report a sinking feeling, mortified and demoralized. The thought of being offensive or throwing down any fire wasn’t there, actually their rationale was lost during the encounter.

“This is the best part: they all report huge red glowing eyes that pierce your soul. Shortly after it vanished back into the woods. They didn’t speak for weeks after, they don’t tell this story to anyone. My friend hounded his brother for weeks to tell him what was wrong, i feel privileged to know. I’ve only told this story a hand full of times. What was it i wonder, big foot, chupacabra, predator, a fawn, mothman, a skunk monkey?

“Fact, after the incident these marines seem to be dealing with some PTSD; did it take their souls? They don’t go into the woods anymore, they’re not who they once were and I’d say scared of the dark is an understatement, although the driver isn’t quite as bad off. There are things in this world no man should know lest he learn the hard way and there’s no going back.”

Possible Bigfoot Habitat Destroyed By Forest Fire

The Little Grider FireI’m sorry to report that an area of the forest that I considered to be a likely Bigfoot habitat near Happy Camp has been incinerated by a recent forest fire. The Little Grider Fire ignited on top of a hill right next to the one I live on on July 14, 2007.

A lightning storm three days before brought over 1200 lightning strikes to the Klamath National Forest. By the next day fire fighters were working to control about 55 fires. The Little Grider Fire probably smoldered a few days before bursting into flames. The only other explanation is that it could have been intentionally set, but that’s very unlikely and locally, nobody seems to believe or talk about that theory.

Little Grider Fire behind Parry’s MarketHere in Happy Camp, we’re used to having fire fighting activity during the summer – but usually the fires are far enough away from town that we’re not terribly concerned about anything but air quality issues. This year, however, the fire was less than a mile from town between my home and Little Grider Creek.

I was out of town for my birthday on July 13. When I arrived home the next evening at 11:30pm, I was shocked and worried when I saw the forest fire nearby. I contacted a local deputy that night and talked to other local residents while we looked at the fire map outside the post office after midnight. The deputy said evacuations were a strong possibility but that I’d be safe at home that night.

The next few days were full of town meetings, packing, storing valuables, and expecting the worst. But many prayers were answered when a heavy rainstorm stalled and put out most of the fire a few days later.

Smoke over Happy CampStill, the fire fighters did a lot of back burning in the area, to decrease underbrush and make the forest around Happy Camp more fire-safe. My partner complained about the animals of our forest whose habitats were being destroyed, and about the air quality, which was wretched. Our valley was full of smoke for days. I’m glad to say that’s over for now and the crews that remain in town are doing mop-up on the Little Grider Fire. The only local people evacuated were those living about ten miles south of town near Elk Creek Road, who were in the path of another fire. Those people are also considered to be Happy Campers though they live outside of town.

I’m very disappointed that this fire spread as far as it did, because I believe that Bigfoot lived in the area. Hopefully if so, they survived in caves, or moved on before the flames reached them.

A few Happy Camp Bigfoot sighting locationsThere have been at least five separate Bigfoot sightings in this area during the last five years, so naturally I had my eye on the nearby forest and have traveled through many times, hoping to see something while driving on the old logging roads.

The map shows the area of the Little Grider Fire, about half-way through it. The stars are Bigfoot sighting locations nearby. Here’s a list of some of those local sightings:

1. A man claimed to have seen a Bigfoot on the hill above Buckhorn Road in 2005. He later recanted.

2. Other sightings also took place on Buckhorn Road in 2005. An unusually large Bigfoot footprint was found half-way up that hill later that summer. The reporter had two separate sighting experiences within a month.

3. An unconfirmed sighting reported to me took place at a picnic table near the airport. A man said he was eating lunch and noticed young Bigfoot (possibly more than one) playing in the forest nearby. I don’t know the year this happened, so it may not have been recent.

4. In 2002 a local teenager was driving down Highway 96 when he saw a large dark creature run across the road near Little Grider Creek.

5. In 2005 a Southern California minister said he saw a large dark creature jump down onto the highway in front of his car, then stand and cross the highway in only two strides.

I don’t want you to think that this fire destroyed all our local Bigfoot habitat; there have been Bigfoot sightings in other areas nearby, and you can tell from the photo above that the Klamath National Forest is vast, with many thousands of acres of possible Bigfoot territory. But this area of the Little Grider Fire was what I considered to be our best local hot spot because of the number of sightings in the area.

Bigfoot Sightings Reported in the Bigfoot Buzz

Terence Sakohianisaks Douglas is the author of the monthly Bigfoot Buzz column at First Perspective National Aboriginal News.

In his March 31, 2007 column he featured the Bigfoot sightings reports of four indigenous people who contacted him with information. In one, a woman alone in the woods encountered a Bigfoot who stared at her in such a way she believed she was being hypnotized. When she arrived home she was extremely tired, a condition that persisted for weeks and which she attributed to Bigfoot. While I believe it is possible that Bigfoot was doing some kind of hypnosis on her, I think the reason for her exhaustion was probably due to the shock and stress of seeing such an anomalous and huge creature.

In another account Bigfoot was seen near Ft. Bragg, California – something I found interesting as I received a report last year of numerous Bigfoot footprints found in that area.

Another segment of this issue of the Bigfoot Buzz included this statement, “Sasquatch people continued to trade with other First Nations and even learned a little of the old languages.” I find that fascinating as I’ve always wondered if Sasquatch could be taught our languages, and I have an interest in learning to communicate with them.

Bigfoot Are The Old People of the Forest

Bart Nunnelly expects his book, Mysterious Kentucky, to be published this summer. He is also part owner of Kentucky Bigfoot, along with Charlie Raymond. About.Com has published an article he wrote about a Cherokee man he visited while researching his book, in Bigfoot and the Cherokee Hill. The article was previously published at Kentucky Bigfoot Sightings Reports along with lots of pictures.

This article gives one of the best descriptions of the physical appearance of a Bigfoot that I’ve read. There’s also a Bigfoot picture which Nunnelly sketched with the help of his Cherokee friend. Very impressive!

The Cherokee man, named only M.F. in the article, said he had frequent Bigfoot sightings during his youth, including observing them regularly at a field where they scavenged for roots and grasses. Nunnelly recounts an incident when M.F.’s grandfather watched a Bigfoot carry away two full-grown pigs weighing two hundred pounds each.

M.F. carried with him a huge tooth he believed came from a Bigfoot. He showed Nunnelly where he found it – in a valley filled with Cherokee graves. Maybe some of my ancestors are there – my great-grandfather was Cherokee. I was touched by Nunnelly’s description of the area, which he’s promised to keep a secret.

Carter Bigfoot Sighting In Tennessee

This morning I read the letter Janice Carter Coy sent to Mary Green about her experience with Tennessee Bigfoot sightings during her childhood. This is the case Green’s book, 50 Years With Bigfoot: Tennessee Chronicles of Co-Existence is based on.

The topic came up over on Bigfoot Forums as someone was trying to get information about where to get a copy of the book. Now, I’d like to know. Where can I get this? I searched Amazon and it isn’t there.

Apparently Janice Carter Coy was about seven years old when she literally ran into a Bigfoot at her grandfather’s Tennessee farm. According to her letter, her grandfather established a relationship with the Bigfoot and fed him regularly.

I know lots of Bigfoot enthusiasts complain about Mary Green and the work she’s done. I don’t, and am saddened when people react that way toward others. Iwould like to check this out for myself, so if you have any idea where I can get this book, please let me know.

[Update: Mary Green wrote to me to let me know how I can get one of the last copies of her first book. Thanks, Mary!]

Bigfoot Sighting Leads To Litigation

When Matt Moneymaker, owner of BFRO, had a Bigfoot sighting while on expedition in Kentucky, he probably never thought it would end up in court. The BFRO Bigfoot video footage, which was sold to Adrian Erickson of Newgrowth Capital Corp. for $20,000, was intended to become a part of a motion picture which is in production at this time.

According to Newgrowth Capital Corp v. Craig Woolheater and Cryptomundo, LLC, Woolheater declined to sign a non-disclosure agreement to view a clip of the Kentucky Bigfoot sighting film at the BFRO website. The lawsuit also alleges that Woolheater severed ties with the organization and, after receiving the clip from a BFRO member, posted it to his blog, Cryptomundo, which as it turns out is a LLC: Limited Liability Company based in California.

You can discuss this Bigfoot sighting litigation on the Matt Moneymaker vs. Cryptomundo.com thread at the Bigfoot Forums.

Thanks to ‘Guy in Indiana’ at the Bigfoot Forums for supplying this link and a few others. (See the thread link above for more information.)

Bigfoot Misinformation from the Czech Republic

A newspaper in the Czech Republic proudly printed what I consider to be Bigfoot misinformation today.

“As we mentioned in an earlier column, Bob Heironimus is also world famous. He played ‘Bigfoot’ (or Yeti) in the historic Roger Patterson/Bob Gimlin Bigfoot hoax film of 1967 and for more than 31 years fooled many scientists. In fact, there are still some scientists like Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum who refuse to admit that this “dumb cowboy” managed to fool them.

Some people actually ‘believe’ that the creature known as ‘Bigfoot’ or Yeti really exists. While this is a distinct minority of individuals and even fewer scientists, ‘BFers’ as they are affectionately known, still defend the Patterson/Gimlin hoax film, despite Bob Heironimus’s thoroughly verified confession.”

I find it frustrating to read this. Though Heironimus may have a ‘thoroughly verified confession’ on record somewhere, this does not mean that his confession is valid.

I live right down the road (Highway 96, aka: The Bigfoot Scenic Byway) – not far from Bluff Creek. We’re still getting Bigfoot reports from time to time; some coming from extremely credible people residing in this community (Happy Camp) or visiting it.

Todd Standing Sounds Credible

I’m listening to Todd Standing on Coast to Coast AM as I’m writing this – and I like him… he has a good spirit, and I’m inclined to believe his claim to have found Bigfoot and filmed Bigfoot videos.

This is very encouraging – especially because if this is valid, it feels good to know that someone decent and non-egotistical has done what some of the ego and money oriented Bigfoot researchers I’ve had contact with in the past have not been able to do. I see no problem with humble skeptics, but there’s been so much jostling to get to the top of the Bigfoot research field, it is nice to see a decent humble-sounding person making a breakthrough and finding Bigfoot before the others.

I plan to listen to the show again tomorrow with my Bigfoot research partner, and will probably write more about it then.

Down with crazy egomaniacs using one-upmanship tactics to find fame and fortune!

Power to humble people who seek to protect and care about Sasquatch!

Bigfoot Video & Bigfoot Protection Petition

Todd Standing says he’s found Bigfoot in the Rocky Mountains – and he’s made a documentary with Bigfoot footage to prove it.

Not only that, he’ll be on Coast to Coast AM this Sunday to tell us about it. See his website, Sylvanic, for more information.

I’m excited about this and have high hopes that it is the real thing. Todd took this one step further and introduced a petition to the Canadian House of Commons requesting legal protection for Sasquatch. I’m behind him 100% on this and have considered doing something similar locally since Sasquatch live in my area.

In an Edmonton Sun article about the petition, it is explained that the movie is called Sylvanic as that’s a native word from southern British Columbia meaning “shadow guardians of the mountains.”
